need help with typhoon + maya44 usb sound card
Posted on: 10.06.2010 by Taneka Harvin
hey guys i have a vestax typhoon controller and i am trying to use a esi maya44 usb sounds card but im having problems. i cant get the right settings so i can hear what i trying to mix in my headphones whilst the current song is playing in traktor. ive tried every combo i can as to the output routing but still having no luck. when using the sound device built into the typhoon, as soon as i alter anything on the controller traktor slows and gets grainy. im believeing of simply buying a audio 2dj sound card as i know they work but im struggling to see why i cant get this set up working.
any help much appreciated

Fixed it!!

The outputs problem was fixed by re-installing the ASIO4Typhoon drivers the long tedious way.

After that, I used ASIO4All to select the outputs of the Typhoon, with the outputs from my usb soundcard, an M-Audio, into one combined soundcard. You have to be careful in selecting only the outputs, or it wont work.

In the output routing, select the sound card 0 and 1 for Master and under Monitor, select Typhoon 2 and 3.

I can now play music on my studio monitors and cue with my headphones on the vestax

Thanks for the timely reply!

I'm using Traktor Pro.

The unit has developed a different problem now. It plays master through headphones and nowhere else. On the web a lot of people are having problems with this vestax.. I like it and I'd love to get it to work but if it keeps giving me problems then i will return it.

What software are you using?

way to re-open last year's thread. but being in the same situation as mikey88 and actually watching it work i decided to register and chime in.

I've got roughly the same setup:

vestax > laptop > usb soundcard > sound.

The funny thing is, yesterday it worked. I had sound through my speakers and I could cue with my headphones. Today, I'm afraid, it doesnt.

Its really annoying for n00bs like me when things only work by magic. Either you have a 100% complete understanding of the programming or you're basically just causing problems.

Anyway, I believe I may have found a solution using ASIO4all, but it needs work. Has anybody else fixed the problem in the mean time?

Oh I'm sure there is a way to either change the MIDI channel on either the Typhoon or the Nanopad. But that's the key ingredient: changing the MIDI channels. It should say something in either manuals.

it doesnt work with amd cpu's or celeron or atom intel cpu's. im not sure if you can get it to work but the vestax website and the manual both say it so there has to be a reason. time for me to start practicing and record a few mixes and get as good as i can. just need to figure out how to use my nano pad along with my typhoon in traktor without them interfering. ive heard there is a way and im going to search on here to see if anyone has done it. not sure if you can use 2 midi devices in traktor at once but sure there is a way

OK cool! Glad to hear it!

That's interesting to hear that it doesn't work with AMD, but I'm glad to hear everything is working out.

Happy Mixing!

its ok dynamics, isnt condescending but i have worked out how to use the typhoon, ive just stumbled over the obvious with the maya 44 sound card which im ashamed i didnt believe of that. everything works fine.
i am using a dell inspiron 1525 with intel core2 duo processor. i know the typhoon doesnt work with lesser cpu's. i purchased this laptop due to my pc running amd processor which the typhoon doesnt work with which im confused to why it doesnt as it isolates alot of people who use computers with amd processors.

ive been waiting for the typhoon for over a month and just wanted to get started at long last and the little niggles where frustrating me but everything is sorted now thankfully

Hmm, that's interesting. There are a few ways to tackle this and I apologize in advance if it may seem a bit condescending. I'm going to try and help you the best and clearest way I can.

First make sure in the program that the three knobs (Mix, Main, Vol) at the top-center of the screen are set to their default positions by double-clicking on them. This should show the Mix all the way to the left, and the Main and Vol knobs somewhere 2/3 of the way full.

Let's try just using the Typhoon as the soundcard.

1. Select it as the audio device.
2. Outputs 1/2 as Master, 3/4 as Monitor. (or however it is designated.)
3. Now with a song playing on deck A, click on the Headphone in the program on deck B turning it blue.
4. With the volume fader on deck B lowered, hit play on deck B and slowly raise the headphone volume knob on your Typhoon controller.

Also as a test, raise the output knob on the Typhoon to see if you getting any sound out of the main outputs.

(What type of computer are you using?)

So your speakers and headphones are connected to the Maya ?

If you are selecting the Maya as a soundcard in Traktor, I hope you are not expecting to use the headphone output of the Typhoon, as this is not possible if you look at it logically...

laptop - typhoon - sound system
or if i use the maya44
laptop - typhoon - maya44 - sound system

what im trying to do is cue deck B through my headphones as deck A is playing.
when i use the typhoon it seems to peak out and become slow and grainy forcing me to close and re open traktor.
however when i use the maya44 usb i cannot get any sound to my headphones. it gives me 4 output options for output monitor and master( the same as the typhoon) but it wont come through my headphones so i can cue up next song

all my set up is:

laptop
vestax typhoon
maya44 usb sound card

to get to basics, yes all i am trying to do is play out of a sound system.
the only reason i have the maya44 usb sound card is because it was an alternative to buying a audio 2dj however im now going to be purchasing as i dont believe the maya 44 is up to the job.

Ok, so what exactly are you trying to do? Are you using the maya44's 1/2 for deck a and 3/4 for deck b? If so what's coming out of the typhoon?

Are you trying to PFL/cue/monitor with the headphones? Or are you trying to listen to what you're mixing (master out)?

Are you using an aggregate device with both soundcards or just one? What's going IN the maya44 and where is that being connected?

If you want to just mix, cue, and play out to a sound system, all you need is the typhoon. I'm not exactly sure why you need the maya44. Can you please be a bit clearer on how you're set up, and what you're trying to do?

ive notice that all sounds are coming through outputs. on the maya 44 there are leds to show whats doing what and all 4 outputs are lighting up when im playing. the only problem is there is only 4 options and they all go to out, none of them let me put them to in which is there the typhoon is connected. seriously confused why i cant get this working
