ipad question
ipad question Posted on: 15.03.2011 by Wayne Washko hey all, this should be a simple question for someone to answer but i haven't been able to track it down in the community
s i've searched.so i use Tpro on a Windows vista 32 bit lappy with an X1 and a A4DJ. i am looking for an option to control Tpro with the ipad ** but not over wifi ** - i get shitty results when my laptops wifi is on so... instead of TouchOSC, what about the Midi Touch app? 1. can i plug the ipad into my laptop and run an app that will have Tpro recognize the ipad as a midi controller? 2. if not midi touch, is there another app? 3. do i need a camera kit adaptor or just the stock cable that came with the ipad? thanks to anyone who's got an answer on this. i know there is now support for using a midi controller to control apps on the ipad - i'm kinda looking to do the reverse i guess - just not via wifi. | |
Tania Somppi 15.03.2011 | With people saying that some USB to midi cables are working with the camera kit to connect to other midi devices, I'm wondering if you can use 2 midi to USB cables (1 to the PC and 1 to the Ipad) joined with female to female midi connectors. Some of the midi to USB cables in the list are only |

Loralee Erban 16.03.2011 | Im running rtp and it works perfect with an adhoc connction, there is a delay of 2ms which isnt noticable im convinced my omni control is 5 ms anyways. |

Louisa Oberc 15.03.2011 | Have you tried using an ad-hoc connection between your notebook and your ipad? it may solve your connection issues... |

MIDI Over USB Cable (dock cable)
Sending MIDI over the dock cable is not currently possible. This is a limitation in the iPad/iPhone OS itself, and won't be possible unless Apple makes some changes to the OS. http://iosmidi.com/community /viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2 |
Wayne Washko 15.03.2011 | thanks neomonic and twisted panda - confused tho tp said yes with cck neo says no with cck? |
Diogo Dj Dragão 15.03.2011 | It's not going to work with just the cable and the CCK. Connecting that way doesn't give you a set of MIDI I/O on the computer that apps like Traktor can use (because the iPad isn't recognized as a MIDI device by the computer - even if it's sending MIDI). It IS possible to turn the MIDI data around with an app that sends it using a standard networking protocol, and also provides a virtual MIDI port to hook into (in fact, this is how the wireless apps work - you would just be using the cable as the connection method instead). But that solution can be dodgy, and doesn't work with everything. For instance, apparently you CAN use TouchOSC and OSCulator on a Mac and communicate via the cable (OSC is a network based protocol, so this isn't a surprise). But OSCulator isn't available for Windows yet. For MIDI Touch, using just the USB cable and the CCK is a no go. That's why I suggested the USB interface. It works great, and unlike the TouchOSC/PureData solution, it supports MIDI feedback as well. But I know that also doesn't really help you out. CCK = Camera Connection Kit |
Libbie Deutchman 15.03.2011 | Midi Touch would work, but you will need the Camera Connection Kit. It's a shame the Wifi's no good for you, I definitely prefer TouchOSC, but Midi Touch should work just fine. |

Diogo Dj Dragão 15.03.2011 | CCK + M-Audio Uno works great with MIDI Touch. EDIT - Ohhh just realized it's the A4DJ. No 5pin MIDI ports. Do you have another MIDI interface? |
