Vextax TR-1?

Vextax TR-1?
Posted on: 13.05.2011 by Mathilda Loeffel
Can't really find any solid reviews on this thing. My local music store has them on sale for $179.99. For the sale price it seems pretty good.

I'm new to this and still looking for the right piece of kit. I was also believeing of getting the typhoon and the traktor x1 which would be portable and inexpensive if purchased second hand.

any thoughts?

please and thank you

Also, I only use 2 decks, and remapped the move/loop controls to the main section (with the fx on/offs, loop controls, etc) So now I have this dead chunk of controller labelled "move control" with no ideas of what to do with it.
Is there any way to fix this dead zone?

Yeah, there's gotta be something classier I can do with it. It might be cool for the sample record section, but I never use it.

Personally I believe the laptop keyboard is for finding tracks :P

Yeah beat jumps rock. If you do by 32 beats you can move about a song while it is playing out and often you can't even tell.

To search around within the track you use Shift+Back/Fwd (paired with the cue back/cue fwd buttons). It's not too bad, and in Traktor settings, I believe you can adjust how many bars that this jumps.

My only complaint is with searching through tracks using the joystick, I can't find away to jump between folders I have set in my favorites section... maybe I can map shift+joystick to jump folders?

There isn't any "direct" cue buttons, just next cue (cue fwd) and last cue (cue back)... and the easy button to set a new cue point. Also to note, I do find my self using the mouse/touchpad a lot to make fine adjustments when setting cue points. But once they're set, I'm good to go.

I will agree with the knobs & faders... there is a good few percent of dead zone at both top and bottom (zero & 100%)... it's not a major issue, but noticeable.

But still again, $200 bucks makes this extremely difficult to pass up on.

For searching through a track with buttons just set a load marker on the first beat of a phrase and then navigate with beat jumps of 32. All you'll ever need.

What a wonderful controller. I'd totally forgotten about it.

I would buy that in an instant if it was over here and I was into all in one controllers.

Jesus man that really knocks the other gear at that price out the water...

Well I bought it. For that price you'd be crazy not to unless you have something better. Haven't got it yet though as I paid online and did an in store pick up.

I have traktor pro and a newly acquired midi fighter. I'm believeing I will use it with instant gratification on banks 1 and 2 and cue points for banks 3 and 4 since the TR-1 seems to lack buttons for cue points. Or should i upgrade to pro 2 for sample decks? hmmm

@djfil007 thanks for the info. how is it searching through the track with the buttons?

I bought mine for $500 Canadian (including ship & taxes) only like 4-6 months ago. Really makes me wish I waited for this deal, it really is an amazing deal.

There is no on-board sound, but that wasn't an issue for me since I already owned a M-Audio Fast Track Pro.

For basic two deck + full efx control, this device is a great compact lay out for Traktor Pro 2... I really do love it. I will say I've had the little nub for the joystick come off, and need to glue it back on. Otherwise I haven't had any issues. And the overall build quality feels really solid, doesn't feel light and plastic like some of the other Vestax controllers.

I've also considered pairing this with the Akai LPD-8 to add in control for the sample decks.

you're right. for the price I believe I may just get it and see if I like it.

here's a link if anyone else is interested.

and the $20 off code is BSPVTR1. It expires this Sunday at 5pm though.

from what I understand, its basically just a vci-100 without jog wheels and with a deck switcher. 199 is a once in a lifetime price, so I would definitely go for it if i had the cash. (seriously, i wish i had the cash)

This place called Tom Lee Music in Vancouver. It's on sale from $399 to 199 and then I got an email to take off another $20. Seems like a wicked deal if it's something you're looking for. I just don't know if it's what I'm looking for. lol
