Which Led's Standard or Ultra Bright ??
Posted on: 30.05.2011 by Joan Kollmorgen
I'm wanting to order some Led's off ebay for one of my many projects and wondered if any of you guys have used the standard brightness led's in your projects.

Reason i ask is i don't want to be dazzled like with the ddm4000 but at the same time i don't want them to look dim?
The other reason is price as the standards are a lot cheaper

Just so you know these led's will be mounted in the face of the project with led holders.

These are the standard

And these are the ultra bright

Any advice is welcome

I ended up buying the standard type plus some holders.

Check my blog for rough idea what I'm gonna be building.

Last time I used superbrites for a project I put a slightly higher resistor on to dim them, also gave them a rub with fine sandpaper so they don't dazzle as much.I believe it was 1500 grit or higher

Definitely the correct choice to get standard. I bought 5 volt super bright and could barely see the fader I had connected it to. I used a resistor to dim it a little.

Not had experience with either but my first instinct was to get the standard LED's as too bright LED's are really distracting.

But having thought about it, could you use a resistor to lower the brightness on the ultra brights? Or use some clouded perspex to dull the LED's a bit?

I would probably order 1 LED of each and do some tests...
