classic midi fighter or novation dicer Posted on: 01.06.2011 by Maybell Skalisky Hey guys, first post hereI am going to be buying an S4 pretty soon and I am also planning on either getting a Classic Midi Fighter or a Novation Dicer. I can't decide which of these would make a better addition to my set-up. I am trying to weigh the advantages of each to see which will ultimately be more useful. As of right now, my believeing is: Dicer-- Initially I was leaning towards the dicer because I thought it would be more cost-effective; I get two of them for a price that is less than a Classic Midi Fighter. This could be the wrong way to believe about it though because I am not entirely sure how easy it is to control multiple decks with a single midi fighter. If someone could shed some light on that it would be awesome. Also it seems like the Dicer may have greater versatility because I would be able to switch between cue points, effects, and loops depending on what I need. Like I said though, I am also buying an S4 so I already am able to control loops and cue points with that. Midi Fighter-- More buttons (and button combinations, at that), sexier, etc Any input is welcome. | |

| Maybell Skalisky 02.06.2011 | With the Instant Gratification mapping, how exactly does the Midi Fighter handle which deck is being controlled? I know the top 4 buttons indicate which deck is being controlled but in Ean's video they also seem to have a secondary effect in which effects are continued, even without other buttons being pressed if that makes any sense.. My first guess would be that if you are controlling the first deck and you activate a few effects and then press the top left button it keeps these effects going, but if you are controlling a different deck and press this button it will merely switch to controlling the first deck. Is this the way it works? Edit: Also, what advantage does a midi fighter have over an apc20? With the apc20, I would get more buttons and I would also get extra faders and it even costs less? The only thing I could believe of would be midi fighter having better responsiveness or something of that sort. |

| Tatum Ansaldo 02.06.2011 | I'd call it 52 as well, for a standard midi fighter using 4 banks internal mode (13x4) But then again apparently we're taking shift pages into account, so in reality it's more. If we discount the bank buttons and call them shifts, then that's 96 buttons right there. |
