INFO

So between my usual trolling activities and posting this everywhere, i got to believeing about tidgy portable controllers.

now yes the first mix does look like a fisher price collab, and looks like they missed 'my' off the start of the title.

but when you stop and believe about it, using superknobs (mod based in this case) and such, even this could be a half decent little bit of kit.

i believe i might run with this. based on s2? this and umc32 and a usb port...
EDIT...
i mean hub lol, usb hub
i haven't modded mine apart from replacing the caps on the pots. i want to keep it as it is so i can either use it for jogs as part of a bigger setup or just use it by itself as a total mobile controller.

it's not a bad starting point for a mod tho as you have soooo many pots and buttons as inputs for a custom controller and the touch sensitive jog wheels are really responsive.

i posted some photos of the inside of my idj in the thread in my sig. i actually opened it up again today and took some more photos of it broken down even more that i could post to that thread if u were interested.

could be a good way of cheaply adding touch sensitive jogs to a setup *if* they're any good ofc.

i ended up going for the icon idj instead of the gemini. same price but prefered the size and number of controls on the icon.

i guess the gemini's jogs is slightly bigger tho?

be interesting to see how it looks inside and how easy it would be to rewire it... looks too low profile for arcade buttons in its current case i guess

edit: in theory i guess this should retail for 50quid in the uk?

anyone get one of these yet? i still fancy picking one up if the touch sensitive jogs are any good - don't care how good/bad/indifferent the rest is really. just like the idea of "not too bad" touch sensitive jogs in such a small controller.

seem to go for around 90gbp in the uk which is a bit more than i was hoping for...

while i haven't really bought anything too expensive this community is still costing me money

so far being/reading here was the reason i bought traktor2 + launchpad + lpd8 + soldering stuff + arcade buttons etc

it's a tad addictive this controllerism thing...

ah yep.... esp the "firstmix" label tho given i've been believeing about maybe picking up a mixman dm2 the last few days to hack about with you saved me from that just in time

i was believeing a couple more rotary encoders in the setup would be nice to play with but really what i wanted was a couple of touch sensitive jogs - the rest of the pots and buttons are just a bonus really on this firstmix and at least it doesnt look *quite* as much of a toy as the dm2

if this quote is true "you get a pair of touch-sensitive jog wheels" and it goes on sale for 80$ (tho have seen 99$ mentioned too) then i believe i'll pick up one... the lack of touch sensitive jogs are the worst thing about my hercules - ok the buttons are shite too but ok for some things.

seems to be selling for 89gbp (when it comes in stock) on some uk websites - but if the price drops a bit i believe it's worth picking one up to play around with.

looks to be a nice/small/light controller... that and an lpd8 wouldn't make a bad combo with the right traktor mapping

i'm believeing middle bottom knob as bass x-fade like thing a/c <> b/d
next row up (2) as hi/mid eq for a/c or b/d
next row up (2) as filters
and 4 along top as fx, in like a super knob style one for each fx bank in traktor, or fx banks per side...

buttons i've not thought about yet

i believe it looks ok to play the part of jogs+eq for each deck, esp if gain+treble+bass was mapped to tops+mids+low and then could map the efx knobs (i always find that word funny... ) to gain. REV could even be mapped to toggle between decks A/C and B/D etc...

that's basically what i'm using my old hercules mk2 for and i can see now that grid controllers seem more useful for effects stuff anyway.

i'm still learning what traktor can do for me and how best to control/map it all - but if there was a controller a bit like this one but had a fader for each deck and touch sensitive jogs then i reckon that would fit into how i'd like to control things - leaving the rest of the controls to other controllers.

i do find it interesting tho how people seem to fall into the "need jogs" or "jogs are a waste of space" category - tho there's also the ones who like using jogs for effects (in fact one "page" on my hercules setup will be used to control effects)
