I need help choosing the RIGHT controller?
Posted on: 22.10.2011 by Bud Ostry
I really need help to try and find a controller that will best suit me as a DJ.
I have been DJ'ing for the past year now and I feel I should upgrade my gear and get a controller to full get the max out of any software. I want a controller that will really suite me as I'm a Bedroom DJ.

Hers all my Preference's:

I have no favorite software to use
I Prefer to have Jog Wheels on my controller
I use the pitch blender to beat match
I don't mind how many channels their are
I use loops
I use effects
I use Cues
I'm a Bedroom DJ
I don't care about portability
I use a Windows 7 Laptop
I don't mind what Company it is made by
I tend to mix Electro House or Dutch House
My Price range is between 0-2000(Euro)

I have had these controller in mind but I can't seem to pick a winner

Kontrol s4
Kontrol s2
Numark NS6
Numark N4
Pioneer DDJ S1
Pioneer DDJ T1

If you can choose one that will work the best for me I will be very happy or if you know another controller that will be good for me I would love to see it.

Thanks,
Gary

Are you sure about this?
Everywhere ive looked its all about how the T1 is the perfect DVS mixer for traktor? Doesnt it even ship with Traktor SCRATCH Duo?

"Pioneer DJM-T1 (Traktor Scratch Certified Mixer)."

EDIT! I realise now your not talking about the DJM-T1... Your talking about the DDJ-T1... how confusing...

Yeah that is a very good point and I believe because it lacks the inputs I might go for NI's Traktor Kontrol S4 as it looks best for what I need and want.

Thanks,
Gary

I'm very interested in the Pioneer controllers, though. I haven't seen much usage of the DDJ-T1/S1, and they both appear to be capable competitors of the S4. I believe another question you need to have answered is which software will you be using? Traktor? Serato? Deckadance? etc.
It would be either Serato or Traktor , I have used both and I'm comfortable with both and I don't have a favorite.

lol what? The DJM-T1 is the PERFECT traktor scratch mixer.

As brinx said, it even comes with Traktoe Scratch Duo 2 bundled with it.

I didn't recommend the Numark controllers because Numark is infamous for problems with hardware and support. Although I haven't had problems with either, I couldn't vouch for them. Too many stories. Also, I didn't recommend the Pioneer controllers simply because they're very expensive, as is everything else Pioneer. But the price tag must be justified by quality, right? The S4 is more praised because it's more common and affordable. I'd go for the S4 simply because NI made Traktor and the S4. Slap on the K2 for extra controls and you've got those aforementioned rainbows.

And what do you use with those NDX800s?

I forgot to add also that I have two NDX800's at the moment.

But from what all of you had said so far the S4 is best for me , But I would like to Know why it is best for me and also why I should get the Xone:K2.

Is their any reasons why you didn't say the Pioneers or the Numark controllers?

Thanks,
Gary

From those, I'd go for NS6 with itch, suits the manual mixing thing you got there listed. Although I don't know how accurate the pitch faders are, but you CAN sync the bpm's if necessary. I have xone dx and the rotary pitch knob works fine when you get used to it, great value at the moment too for the price it has.

Of course, the K2 isn't out yet, but looks like a solid piece of hardware.
