Controller debate question

s, but I've been visiting the main site for quite some time now.Anyways, thing is: I've been looking around for my actual first controller for traktor 2 (I just have a modded pc keyboard to simulate a midi controller) and I've sort of hit a wall. I'm debating whether to buy a Numark Mixtrack (including the DJ i|o soundcard for $169) Hercules RMX (200) and the Vestax VCI MK1 (300 and up) I need to save as much money as possible, since I also need a new pair of headphones. I've read different articles saying that the numark mixtrak can easily stack up to higher grade controllers (Read: Vetax's) But I really wanted to hear people's opinion over this, since I know there's a large community behind the VCI, and another for the numarks. Or any other greatly priced midi controllers, for that matter. I'm mainly in to mixing and remixng house and Dubstep. Later on produce on ableton (I'd re-mod my trusty keyboard) Thanks in advance guys! | |

| Chasidy Heckenbach 04.11.2011 | yep - really does depend on what controls you want/need and how u intend to use them. are reasonable quality jogs importantto you? do u tend to use effects a lot? a lot of people seem to like the mixtrack. should be good for basic 2 deck mixing using 2 effects units. for instant grat type effects or lots of beat jumps then you'd need an additional grid controller. if you plan on using more than 2 effects units then i presume you'd need something extra too. if u don't care about jogs then the K2 could be used as an all in one solution for 4 deck mixing - esp with the 4x4 grid and it's own internal latching layers - which would make traktor mapping multiple controls to a single physical control soooo much simpler. about 200gbp tho - so about the same as the vci price u mention. a lot of people love the vci-100 mk1 (assuming thats the one u mean) and probably wouldn't be something you'd want to replace later - tho would still need additional controllers for simplish sample deck or to control all effects maybe. if i wanted nice/standard 2 deck control then i'd be tempted by the mixtrack for it's price and what people say about it. |
| Roseanna Signorini 04.11.2011 | It really all depends on your price point and what you expect to be able to do on the controller. Do you want to spend $150-$200 now, only to outgrow it in 6 months? Once you get any controller and have moved away from using the keyboard, a whole new world will open up and you will kick yourself for not getting a controller sooner. At the same time, you don't want to throw money away either. Think about what it is that you like to do, what your mixing style is, how do you use loops, effects, samples, hotcues and get the controller that best suites your style. Everyone is going to have an opinion on which controller they like better and why and why this controller sucks but you have to feel comfortable with your purchase and feel confident that it can handle the way you want to DJ. |

I plan to buy through ebay or amazon since i live in Puerto Rico... meaning that all retail prices over here should be atleast 20 to 30 per cent higher than they should be.. @buddha - How's the sound quality? It's all good? Can you tell me anything more about it? (sorry if i got annoying) Not the most portable controller, I presume? lol huh... we might be talking by the end of the year then...lol Thanks! |

| Kayce Mesia 03.11.2011 | I have a Mixtrack (note: Not the Pro version). Although the thing is made of plastic, the Mixtrack is a great controller for beginners. My only three gripes about the Mixtracks are the placement of the master volume fader between the A and B faders (Which is also found on the RMX. >.>), and the lack of sufficient FX control. I do understand the controller was made for the LE version of Traktor, so to control more of Traktor Pro, you'd need an additional controller. Lastly, the unit is huge. It's as big as an S4. There are great deals everywhere, where do you plan to buy? |
| Lizzette Flavell 03.11.2011 | Forgot to mention that I very much like the RMX's for their very "professional" look and feel I to it, which i just love.(Which indeed is very noobie of me) and I've seen good stuff around on them, but there isnt much in terms of what i want to do with them and not many reviews either. Their sound card being on the "lower" spectrum is sort of worrysome. |
