Xone 22, FX loop as 3rd channel

I've found an interesting use for the FX return of the Xone 22.

By accident I found that you can play anything through it. Even if the FX loop button is off.

So what I have done is turn it into a 3rd channel of sorts. Actually since I have traktor on a laptop and a computer what I have done is have external mixing on my desktop and internal mixing through my laptop and have access to 4 decks + 2 sample decks.

I'm really tempted to buy a twitch now so that I have a midi controller and therefore some real knobs and buttons to play with on this "3rd" channel.

Some quirks when used this way.

1) The volume of the "channel"? is reduced with the FX button off. I don't know why but turning it on enables the channel to be at regular volume.

2) You basically lose the ability to have the Xone filter on channel's 1 and 2. However what you gain is that the filter is on all the time for the FX return channel. This also means that by changing the filter type you mess with the sound. However you can obviously change the filter when you are playing instead on channel 1 or 2 and nothing on the FX return.

3) You can't cue the FX return, so you need to have another set of headphones or replug them into a different sound card for cueing.

hm wondering if that would work on my crappy vmx 200, but it doesn't have a dry/wet control on the efx so I guess it would be kinda hard to control volume.

is it possible to use a mic input for that? I'm worried that it has different amps and the output would be too high/low using a line level input...

hehe, i am using the efx-dry/wet potentiometer + an cinch/TRS adapter on my ECLER SMAC PRO 30 to get an second cue-system when we are djing back2back ;o)

there are much ways to creative use all the I/O ports of your hardware ;o)

AHH YEAH!

SWEET FIND!

Reason?

I have an External Mixing Setup and an Internal one. Always a bitch to unplug the one to use the other.

My Audio4 is setup with my TT's and Xone 22, but when I want to use my APC80....I am now just turning the Xone 22 on and I mix internally with the APC80, so the Audio4 channel 1 out is going to the XOne 22. I just make sure the mixer is on and channel 1 is UP.

Wondering if using the FX loop like you mention above will work.

Might not be better than how I currently have it.

Anyhow...its great to pick up these Xone 22 tips!

Cheers dude!
