Mackie Thump TH12A Review

Hello Guys,

I just got a single Mackie Thump TH12a powered speaker last week and wanted to post up my thoughts since its hard to find information about this powered PA speaker.

I was looking for a speaker that would travel easily along with my Kontrol S2 so that I would have a super mobile DJ setup for going to house parties or get togethers. I play mainly hip hop and some top 40.

The cabinet is super clean looking and easy to transport. It's relatively light compared to other powered speakers and is easy to carry like a briefcase with the handles incorporated into the speakers sides. It looks like it could easily survive being banged around in your trunk.

The sound is very decent for the price. It's not a ton of bass but its more than serviceable. I'm sure you could add a sub to get better sound but that defeats the idea of having a super portable system. Here's where you get alot of conflicting information if you read reviews online. Look, its not going to compete with the QSC, JBL's or other higher end PA systems but that's not the intent here and its also less than half of other powered speakers! It may not put out the quality or the volume of sound of those other systems but the value is definitely there.

If you are looking for something that can handle small house parties, DJ'ng at a friends bbq, or even a boutique and you are on a budget, or just dont want to spend alot, this speaker will work for you. It would also work great as a personal monitor or system to practice with at home.

There's also a bigger 15 inch version that I didn't check out because of its size and weight (again trying to stay super portable).

So those are my thought and opinions... just thought I would post them up in case anyone was looking for the same thing.
