If I were building a beginner rig, I'd buy a basic 2 or 3 channel mixer, a sound card to match, and probably an X1 and a DN-SC2000. After the upgrade from Traktor LE to Pro, it'd be about the same cost as an S4 and give you one (or two) fewer channels but a lot more room to grow. And, really, beginners don't need 4 channels. It'll just confuse them. |

Kim Heuermann 19.12.2011 | amazing X1 mapping http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=42078 |
Kim Heuermann 19.12.2011 | it depends on what style of djing you want to do, two X1's is a great setup same with a midi fighter and a mixer. i use use ableton live and a mpd32 and i love it saves table space and the controller provides everything i need and more. |
Melinda Wubben 19.12.2011 | If you're sure you prefer Traktor, the S2 is a great first piece of kit. However, if you're leaning towards a more traditional approach, don't forget Itch! The Vestax VCI-300 Mk II is in the same price range as the S2. |
Hui Cosio 16.12.2011 | my personal take on a beginner is jump in full throttle. If not you end up spending tons of money on more and more gear. ''this one is ok, but this one is better'' - on the note of not liking it, if you have decent gear, its easily resell able. The advice I can give you is deffinately to shop around and ALWAYS ask for the better deal. If they say they can't, they're lying. |
Wynell Ludin 16.12.2011 | mixtrack with an audio 2 sound card.. u do not need to spend 700 on a first set up 300 tops would be my budget.. this is a great controller and will help you get the feel for what u need and want to do with djing.. then move on to bigger and better things.. |
Cliff Lohman 03.12.2011 | If u have a budget of 700 - imo, look for a used kontrol s4 with traktor pro license. U should be able to find one. Ull need headphones and speakers but hopefully u have a home stereo and some decent headphones that u can use to start. Ask proaudiostar or djtt for their best possible deal on a new one - I could have swore I saw it somewhere for 725 brand new. S4 gives u room to grow and is laid out very well and has tight integration with traktor. Nothing more frustrating than trying to learn on a crap controller that's hard to follow. The s4 makes perfect sense to a beginner if u just read thru the manual (the manual is laid out almost like a how-to-dj guide). The controls do what they are supposed to do right out of the box. S4 is also pretty popular right now so if u figure out u don't want to continue - sell it and ull probly lose 50-100 tops if its in good shape. This assumes u want to use traktor of course. If u had something else in mind like virtualdj or itch, my answer would probably be different. But I'd suggest traktor. This also assumes u aren't looking to scratch , etc. If ur looking to scratch.. Different story and s4 aint gonna cut it (but again, its pretty roomy for growth so u can throw a turntable in the mix in a few months and upgrade to scratch lixense). |

What about an audio 2 and a cheap midi controller. 700 bucks is a lot to put down for an initial investment into a hobby you know very little about. |
Julio Tewell 02.12.2011 | xone dx |
Lynell Piechocinski 02.12.2011 | i'm starting now with Reloop Mixage IE, it's cheap, and good, have all features that you need |
Shantell Kalaitzidis 02.12.2011 | Yes but it is too expensive to go for all those things! Please tell me a controller for the biggest price 700 dolars! |

Shantell Kalaitzidis 02.12.2011 | Thank you to everybody for suggestions. I believe i will go with the s2 because s4 is to expensive. |

Leeanna Ayla 01.12.2011 | I believe the S4 or S2 are great for a beginner because of the 1 to 1 integration with traktor. You pay a little more, but in the long run you'll spend less. If you don't like DJ'ing sell it. |
Brunilda Kora 01.12.2011 | Something with faders, knobs n' buttons on. |
robin loo 01.12.2011 | search the community
s.. millions of threads on exactly this topic.. check the bcd 3000 |
Kesha Pietrak 01.12.2011 | Something cheap just in case you end up not liking it, for my first I went with a Numark Total Control. A lot of people also like the numark mixtrack or mixtrack pro |
