thanks for advices. it wasnt my laptop, i was prepared for mixing directly on CDJ's - but second dj had AUDIO 4 and traktor scratch...soi thought it will be safer to play new trakcs on traktor (waveforms!). And i have to say, that feeling on trkator scratch (using cdjs) is great!

Corrupt ID3 tags is also a common problem, which can be caused by Traktor itself.

Tagging programs like MP3Tag can easily fix files with broken tags.

"DRM protection or corrupt file" is typically caused by either a) not having QuickTime installed, or b) Traktor can't actually locate the file... running a consistency check can usually fix the latter.

Also play or analyze your tracks before the gig, so you know which are 'faulty'.

When it comes to digital DJing, it really pays to do your homework.

Gridding, naming track correctly, sorting them....etc.

Lesson learned... have more music than you believe you need!

Glad it went well for ya.

for the first hour i was scared and i had some problems with mixing (even with beatmatching) and this EVO 4 seems to be so complicated...but later i start to feel pretty good - and that was it! I was playing from cdj's and traktor scratch, traktore start to freaking out, he reject many of my tracks (DRM protection or corrupt file - what the hell? that music was bought on beatport day earlier) but that was amazing. i finished at 5 pm ONLY because i have no more fresh tracks (i have about 70 songs for 2h of mixing) in other case i would stay till 9 pm.

You have to register with pioneer and then you will be emailed a rekordbox license key - go to this link http://rekordbox.com/download/licensekey.php?lang=en
Also its a good idea to use rekordbox to manage your library for CDJs (900 and up) IMO so you can get the bpm and everything for your tracks - even though you probably wont need it!
Golda Sivertson
13.03.2013
I downloaded Rekordbox. it doens't work
. at first windows shows me "unable to find Wlanapi.dll" when i click ok, rekordbox wants license key. what shoul i do?
Alphonso Deitchman
12.03.2013
With Rekordbox you just drag your music into the main window, wait for it to process, then right click what you want and press Export.
You can also compile playlists within Rekordbox.

Otherwise you can just copy MP3 files within folders to the USB stick if you aren't interested in waveforms/BPMs/playlists/cuepoints.

i'm usualy mixing in TTs, because pair of badass turntables + Serato/Traktor or Cross is MUCH cheaper than CDJs. even cheapest cdjs (350) are more expensive than (for example) pair of tt500 or even technics with secondhand Serato sl2. i don't know how to use Rekordbox, the only CDJ's i were using are 800s and 1000s. i'm not using hot cues, slip mode, quantize - just basic functions. so, when i put my songs on usb stick that will work?
Alphonso Deitchman
12.03.2013
Waveforms certainly help a lot for track searching. Rekordbox does not work with 800s/1000s, and only works for USB sticks and SD cards AFAIK.
Latina Samon
12.03.2013
If you analyse using Rekordbox then burn to CD does that make any difference?
If it does, does it make any difference on 800s/1000s?
Golda Sivertson
12.03.2013
i dont't care about BPM counting, seriously. it's not so important. i'm worried about tracksearching and reading errors. meh. i put m songs on Cd (mp3 and cd audio) and usb drive for sure.
Alphonso Deitchman
13.03.2013
You'll get a similar poor loading speed if you don't analyze and export using Rekordbox, and the BPM won't show up til 15-30 secs into a track.
Golda Sivertson
12.03.2013
is it necessary? i mean, i can do it. mp3's on cdj 800 mk2 works horrible - player have problems with reading tracks (error e-8 something) and it is SLOW. cdj need anout 6-7 second to recognize the track.

Yes. You should definitely analyze your music and export to USB with Rekordbox. It's free so you have no reason not to. Analyzed tracks will have accurate instant BPMs and instant waveforms, and you can also set cuepoints on each track. You'll also get a lot more music using MP3s on USB than you would with audio CDs.

Burn the MP3s (NOT audio CD!) to 2 CDs too as a backup.

Yeah the mixers and players are pretty good. There are also technocs sl1210 - but i don't have Searto at this moment - and the gig is tomorrow.

Not unless you want to.

Yep - thats how I do it

I'd do this as well with 20 or 30 tracks across 2 CD's for piece of mind and additionally I'd burn the MP3's to 2 CD's as well so regardless of something failing you'll still have 100% of your set.

Theres Nothing worse than having the CDJ's freak out and freeze over a corrupt MP3 thats on your USB Stick or CD.

Vinyl is a "waveform". I always crack up when people call digital djing cheating because supposedly you don't have the same visual feedback on vinyl, but you do! Looking at a record you can see the breaks, the various parts of a track, albeit not as precisely as with an actual waveform on traktor.

CDJ900 still have basic block waveforms so you still have visual guide

The Evo 4 is just a standard 4 channel club mixer, you'll be fine with it Make sure when you first set up and check your levels you remember to disable the effects as sometimes whoever used the gear last will have left it on. Test each channel you'll be using thoroughly for distortion and to make sure all the pots/faders work; if there's a problem, use a different channel.

Apart from that, just relax. The crowd won't have a clue what you're doing either way, and neither will the management tbh. As long as the music doesn't stop completely for more than 10 seconds you'll be fine.

Relax and enjoy it. Anxiety will hold you back and people around you will pick up on your nerves so don't let them own you.
I've always found 20 minutes with your own thoughts and meditation pre set helps. Sounds a bit hippyish yes, but it works.

if you don't know the gear, take a look at pictures online and perhaps look at manuals to understand the differences.
That will help once you're in front of the gear, and will avoid any gear panic attacks.

You seem ready, have fun!

i know what i felt when i was playing on small house parties with my friends - it was TERRIBLE. i tried my best, but it was really bad. and few hours later, at home, i was full of self confidence - but when people filled dancefloor...i even had problems with beatmatching on MY OWN turntables. i guess, it's normal.

i will post how it was after the gig.

You're gona screw things up. Everyone screws something in their first show. It's normal. No matter how professional you try to be, there's gonna be some kind of a situation where you won't be at your best. Happened to anyone I talked with about their first gig. Happened to me also. But it's mostly some small thing and you're gonna get a hang of it.

In my expirience, I accidentaly increased the master a db or two and it went red and the club owner came to tell me that the sound is clipping after a minute, I wasn't able to hear it from the DJ booth.

Other than that small thing that kinda pops out on everyone's first show, you'll feel great! And have a beer or two before the show like someone said before me, trust us, relaxing a little definitely helps. But no more! You need to be sober when you perform, trust us on that as well.

Hope I helped a little and don't be scared, it's a beautiful expirience.

Oka okay, sorry. but i'm so excited. this is pretty big club. i'd rather like play on Serato, but my friend can't borrow me her interface. meh. i mean, it's much harder to play without waveforms. i know my music quite good, but....THIS IS FIRT GIG! everything can happen (like alin invasion or something like that)
