if it was me i'd wait for the behringer, i'm pretty sure it's going to be a better controller than the mixtrack pro.

as for mappings... i suspect nem0nic will be ensuring that there's a decent traktor tsi ready when the controller is released in fact i'd bet he already has one...

It's actually a good concept if incorporated well, I've used something similar on a Roland Handsonic, they call it a D-Beam and it is very intuitive and tactile. But if it's not done well, I agree that it can go from gimmick to pain-in-the-arse in a hurry!

The best advice I've heard, is to get a nice flight case with a laptop deck for your Kontrol S2. You are use to practicing on it, so it will give you the best live experience. Plus, the S2 (just like other controllers) will be outdated in a few years. It won't be "your precious" for long. That's the digital truth.

I bought air in december and it has some flaws, but I basicly like it. Mixtrack Pro is very popular even among pro users so I'd still go with that.
When using Dj Control Air, you won't accidentally use proximity sensor. Then again, it's a bit hard to change effects on air because there's a little lag and using proximity sensor is a bit tricky in Traktor as default. If you want to use effects and you use them with knobs, adjusting them from 0 to 100% accurately, you won't be able to do this as you like on Dj Control Air. It's like using volume knobs with wireless mouse, sometimes you manage to succeed, sometimes mouse loses signal for a second and master knob goes +134152452. Then, if you just want to adjust effects before using and then push a button, it works as it should.
My personal opinion is that Traktor autogain isn't working well enough, at least if you play new and old music mixed, There are no gain knobs so I remapped +/- -buttons for gain adjusting. Now it works decently, but I still would prefer knobs.

true... the controller is the cheapest part of the setup. well an S2 compared to a mbp anyway. if u could find a slightly battered+cheap S2 then that would be the best option i guess, if u really don't want anything to happen to your main S2. i'd find having different controllers more appealing than two of the same type tho - unless they were one deck controllers ofc

That is weird.
You don't want to bring your S2 to gigs because you don't want people to steal/damage it. Ok, that's understandable.
So you look for a cheaper controller.

However, no matter what is the controller, you'll bring a MacBook Pro, which is way more expensive than a S2 that is worth roughly $400.
Why don't you simply use the club/venue setup then ? 100% safe, nothing is yours except few CDs or USB sticks.

I used it with Virtual DJ (what it came with) for a bit, then went to Traktor Pro then Pro 2. I never mapped anything being a beginner, I just used the standard mapping

Nice.Did you do any mapping on it or used it with Traktor without making mapping ?

Go with the Mixtrack Pro! I started out on one and it is a great controller for the price. I would still be using it to this day but I got some change and got an S4, but a year and a half of everyday abuse and the mixtrack is still in excellent condition

I believe about that also but ı dont want to bring my S2 to anywhere Beacuse thats my precious And ı know that it wil be ruined in a very short notice.Beacuse ın Turkey where ı do my gigs you cant say people to beahve better , drunk and want to hug you every time Thats why ı am 100 sure that it will be ruined.Thats why ı plan to go with the cheap controller to bring every gig ı go to.

Why not get a flightcase for the S2, it probably needs to be built for you but still I believe it's a more practical and cheaper solution.

References: I have the S4 flightcase and it rocks.

As you already have TP2 with your S2, just use that.

One thing with the Behringer: it won't have the same level of integration as the S2. You will be mapping that one yourself

Hercules in my experience have the worst layouts. If you want a decent cheap portable get a mixtrack pro

Completely agree. The DDM4k is my first 4-channel mixer, and honestly I have not felt limited or cheaped out after using more expensive club mixers (DJM800 for example). I've owned multiple Behringer products in various audio applications, and I've noticed that their products continue to get more impressive over the years. I had never heard of this controller but am now seriously looking into it. Behringer is rapidly becoming a company with some balls behind it, and I'm interested to see where the future takes them.

Agree totally. Behringer's new line looks amazing. Jury is still out on the build quality, but they're AMAZINGLY well-designed, and are about to be the cheapest controllers of their kind out there by a wide margin.

The air on the other hand, I believe is horribly laid out. (really? A grid of four buttons? what?)

Thanx. That Behringer look good and not cheap

Maybe ı should check out for a second hand S2 . One more doesnt kill

i'd have thought the S2 was a *reasonably* budget controller to start with - esp when it was on offer. the hercules air does look very cheap tho... the jogs apparently aren't great - not as good as the jogs hercules put on their more expensive recent controllers. the pads could be useful for mapping - not convinced about the "air" functionality but u never know... i *believe* i'd probably opt for the mixtrack pro instead or pay more and get a twitch or S2. a 2nd hand S2 may not be a bad idea? you'd have one spare and can use the exact same mappings...

edit: actually i'd wait for the behringer CMD studio 4a to come out - and see what that was like: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/CMD-STUDIO-4A.aspx
