Hi guys,

i have a Traktor s4 and for the 3rd time my "A" fader in not working proplerlly... i giot tired of that and im believeing about buying a DJM900 to use as a controller (no CDJs) (it could be a A&H DB4 too)

is that possible? does it work fine?

Think about virtually everything that's either useless or very annoying in use on the 900. The destructive colour effects, a God-awful detented knob for the colour effects, no wet/dry/manipulating parameter on the colour effects, the tiny space for manipulating effects unit on the corner or the mixer, the "all in or all out" heavy-handedness of the effects unit, the requirement of a seperate LAN switch for linking (!!), the cramped layout of the effects unit, and the lack of any significant MIDI ability, despite having MIDI sent throughout. Every single one of those things is completely fixed in a user friendly way on the 2k.

The 900 only exists because the touchscreen might not survive extended club install, and because clubs didn't take to the wider layout as well as they'd hoped. It's an aggravating mixer all-around.

The DJM900NXS as a Midi controller is possible. As Kev said I did make a Midi map template to it but really you only have enough for basic transport controller. ie play/sync/que point 1. To make up some and aquireing more control I did opt to lose 2 channels so I could map out the FX paramters on the gain/high/mid/low knobs. I personally enjoyed using it that way but even I knew it would only be a temp solution and moved on to a APC40 with my tables and mixer. Great combo btw. GL on what you choose. I personally love the DJM900 over the 2000 especially since I am getting a RMX1000 soon. =)

Oh yeah I am EDC bound this weekened!!!!!! woot!!

Like what fullenglishpint said, I believe it is better to have a dedicated controller (F1/X1) aside the mixer.

Neither of those are really controllers. But for an extra $200-$300, the DJM-2k has a massive amount of MIDI control on the screen, as well as just all around being a much better mixer.

This would be a better option I believe. 2-channels though

The DB4 has massive midi capabilities considering that it's not designed as a controller. Mixarchitect's traktor mapping is very good, but I do prefer having a dedicated controller.

Ya, it should work fine.. Look for htbrk's mapping.l if i recall right, he set it up to allow u to basically control all the main transport and load controls frommthe midi of djm.

Personally, im not a big fan of using midi on a mixer (i have db4) for transport and loops, etc. i use an x1 which i find is perfect companion. But itll come down to ur style of kixing as to whether it works for u. Technically, its def possible.
