Kontol S2+X1 or F1 VS. Reloop Terminal Mix 4.
Posted on: 19.03.2012 by Cyndi Grenz
So, here's my question;

I'm want to restart mixing after a while that I don't mix, I want a controller, I love the S2 but I miss the 4 channels, yes I'm going to use at least three of them.

If got a few dues:

1.-Can I use a Kontrol X1 or F1 with my S2 two control the other two decks? or can I map the S2 so that I can switch from deck A to deck C and from Deck B to D? If the second option is available I will go to the S2.

2.-I've been looking at the Reloop Terminal Mix 4 and it seems to be really nice, has got a lot of nice features.
Any coment respect this controller would be nice.

3.-I've looked at the Pioneer DDJ Ergo, but I have to add TP2 to the price and I have to siwtch always from decks A to C and from B to D.

So for prices: (I like the option of the S2 because it's also the cheaper)

Those ar the controllers that I can afford. I really wanted the S4 or The VCI-400(Ean Golden edition or not) but they are way to expensive. And I'm an amature DJ, so even if I could would not spend that much money now, because I won't use all of it's features.

S2(only)= 420$(approx) DJTT price (no extra taxes included)

S2+X1= 700$(approx) djstore.com price (no extra taxes included)

S2+F1=755$(approx) djstore.com price (no extra taxes included)

Reloop Terminal Mix 4+ TP2= 822 $ djstore.com price (no extra taxes included)

PD: I pay in CHF(Swiss Francs) or in

It has made me want one but I can justify the Australian price Vs the VCI-400 which is only $50 more because they aren't selling very well.

Do you know hot the "intelligent" kill works ? maybe it just sends a note on message at 0% of the knob. if you use the miditrace app and paste the last 10 or so line's in here we can both find out, I had a look at the vdj pro mapping but there was nothing in there as vdj's eq's are full kill anyway so it's not needed, but it would be handy for making super knobs in traktor

Here are the readings from midi trace

B0 2E 3E 00
B0 2E 3A 00
B0 2E 33 00
B0 2E 2C 00
B0 2E 24 00

B0 2E 06 00
B0 2E 01 00
B0 2E 00 00
90 2E 7F 00

i turned the low eq knob from 12 o'clock position down to minimum.

I sand a question about why there are no taxes in the price to djstore.com when I select shipping to Switzerland. (Probably the best dj shop in EU)(at least the best i've found)
djstore.com is UK based so it's in the EU. I believe that there should be no taxes when products move inside the EU, but you better check it locally. And allso, never trust the internet stores tax predicitions. They don't know shit about other countries tax systems.

yep this "90 2E 7F 00" is a midi note on message, but I sort of expected to see where it turned off though right above it "90 2E 00 00" what this means though is for traktor you can maybe map the delay to the knob then the freeze button at the end similar to what djtt firmware makes possible with the VCI-100/400. that's definitely a bonus with this controller that I don't believe other controllers do.

If you want to map it in traktor it's just the note on message for (note 46) (note Bb2) (hex 0x2E) same as the cc message. to map it in vdj you would need to add it to the definition file first, just changing the red parts to match

<button note="0x2E" deck="?" channel="0" name="eq low kill" />

In Switzerland you must add the 8%, so whan you see the price in euro on a german shop (like thomann.de) you must remove 20% (german VAT) and add 8% from Switzerland....

I'm from Switzerland too :P

Hey, I found out that the VAT for importing to Switzerland are an 8%.

Way lower than normal taxes here.

So, Here's the whole mail djstore sent me(they've been way faster than the last time):

''Hi,

Thank you for your email. When you purchase the item from Switzerland you won't pay any taxes. Any additional duty will be at the Swiss Customs discretion.

Kind Regards,

****(His name)

DJStore.com ''

So I know that taxes are around a 20% in Switzerland.

So at djstore.com the price is 376.67€/400$(including shipping) But I have to add the swiss taxes,20%.

And at DJTT the price is 360.06€/476.52$(including shipping) But I have to add the swiss taxes,20%.

Am I wright?

If I have to pay also the taxes when it arrives to Switzerland, I believe yes, I will be getting the S2 from DJTT,Slight difference at price maybe (I have to pay taxes here to). But it worth it, ChromaCaps, Power Tools and RCA cables.

Once I have the reply I'll copy paste the mail so you can see what I'm talking about.

Your best shot would be to look for some cheap EU dj shops as then you wouldn't need to pay the import taxes
and the shipping isn't too expensive too.

Not only the shpping, that will be around 70 bucks, but when it arrives here I will need to pay the Taxes on it, near a 20%.

Not believeing about second hand productss if I don't know it's in great codition, and as I'm in Switzerland, as I said, it's difficult to find dj shops.

but unfortunately I don't like VDJ at all
I'm a Traktor fanboy

the're stiff enough to not be a concern when mixing, they work fine but they do wobble, I did initially like that they had the extra midi messages as I used them for activating effects and shifting the eq knob to control the effect parameters, but I soon tired of the feeling...

Unfortunately I know very little about mapping in traktor mapping, however I am a walking encyclopedia when it comes to Virtual DJ if you have any questions about that... The mapping is much more complex and comprehensive in VDJ.

Why the hell did they do that? It must be horrible to press the knobs to kill. you can accidentally push it when you're play around with them.

Do you know anything about my mapping questions on the S2??
Jonathan Chiuchiolo
19.03.2012
they have a switch that you can press the knob down to activate the eq kills with the stock mapping, they are great quality components it is just the nature of push to kill knobs that they have a very noticable wobble that makes them feel cheap and imprecise, it's a dealbreaker for me as the function is not worth the feeling.

I believe from the description reloop published that the buttons have changed from hard plastic to soft rubber, that leads me to believe they will be the same action as on the jockey 3/contour which I like the feel of, but again the jockey 2 is lacking in this department and they look the same in shape and size...

synthet1c:

Is really difficult for me to try both of them for two reasons:

1)The Reloop Terminal Mix 4 isn't out yet, comes out on may.

2) I'm only 15 and in the part of Switzerland in wich I live there are no DJ stores, I have to buy it through internet.

Can you explaine me better what you said about hte EQ's please?
Jonathan Chiuchiolo

if you want to peice together your own tracks from loops, (bare in mind this will be harder than it sounds to really use coherantly with anything other than techno/minimal) then the s2 and f1 would be the winner as you get control over two decks at a time (you can map it so it controls 4 decks) and the f1 can control the sampler...

If however you want to only play choons and not get too complicated with the sampler side then the reloop would be better, Personally I have a digital jockey 2 which has the same eq's which I find very annoying as they wobble due to them being push to kill, you should also consider the denon mc6000 as it will be a little more solid although it is smaller than the reloop... I personally prefer large controllers that you can easily move around on without feeling cramped, so that is something to believe about. Best advice though is to use them both in a shop...
