Quneo - open source
Quneo - open source Posted on: 19.11.2011 by Cliff Lohman Since I missed the other thread on queneo.. figured id change the topic - anybody ever done something on kickstarter? Quneo seems successful based on kickstarter funding of $25k in a couple of days. Good motivation if somebodys got a good idea that they want to try to bring to market.. Im very interested to see how this works out for Quneo. Are there any past kickstarter funded dj projects that anybody is aware of? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...nd-usb-pad-con Thought u guys would be interested in this new controller.. Saw it on skratchworx | |

Rosita Bourdeaux 02.10.2012 | So i'd like to bump this to see how everyone's been feeling about their quneo. I may just buy one next weekend to see if it can replace my launchpad. seems to have every feature the LP has plus velocity sensitivity, touch faders and those touch pot things (are they x/y pads or what?). Other than the fugly color scheme it looks solid. BTW anyone else interested in what novation's response to this controller will be? |
Rolanda Clodfelder 26.08.2012 | I can see it being really useful for controlling Effects Parameters e.g. Pressure amount = Beat Repeat amount Using various corners of the pads for Sample Deck control e.g. Right = Record / Left = Stop Technically its a 64 button grid - lotta controls to play with. Where it really looks like it will shine though IMHO is for anything needing drum programming the likes of Ableton or similar, I'd love one to go with my APC |
Cliff Lohman 26.08.2012 | Its not the most useful traktor controller in the world tbh.. Wouldnt be my main choice for traktor unless there was something very specific about the pressure pads that i was looking to do U could try mapping the pressure pads to multiple paramaters in traktor.. For example, make one pad do all these things: 1. Turn on fx unit 1 para 1 and use pressure to control fx level 2. Turn on fx unit 1 para 2 and use pressure to control fx level (make it go in some ratio to num 1) 3. Trigger a cue point Something along the lines of a vci 380 pad pressure scenario.. Its a unique controller imo but again, if u just want a remix deck controller, midifighter or f1 are probably better choices tbh |
Rosana Verity 25.08.2012 | I got my Quneo today and I really don't know what to do with it. I'm a traktor user and those 16 pads really serve no purpose for me right now. If i could control my Remix Decks with it, that'd be amazing, but I can't. If anyone can hack this thing to give it HID, I'll be very happy. |

Elfriede Osbourne 19.04.2012 | here is little better video with visualization of touches on screen (1:30) also all software and probably firmware will be open source so i believe it would be easy to implement different midi modes - absolute or relative |
Chasidy Heckenbach 19.04.2012 | they had said that the normal price would also be 200usd. i do like it but believe its a bit over priced. it is quite unique tho so im sure it'll have a big following. midi seems good tho odd no relative messages sent out for movements of faders like an encoder - that would have been very cool - esp for dj purposes. not sure how useful the after touch will be but could be pretty cool for controlling effects - as ofc is having a 4x4 grid of XY pads. it would make a great general purpose controller for studio use - but i'm looking at the new K2, behringer series, MF3D and F1 for now as next purchases (not all of them ofc ) |
Elfriede Osbourne 19.04.2012 | 200 usd was price for preorders at kickstarter, normal price should be about 230-250 usd. usually price for europe is same amount but in eur, this sucks for us folks in europe (ipad in us 500usd, europe 500 eur...), so 222 is quite reasonable price, at least for me, because i can see tons of new possibilit from this baby Just believe - each pad can record your begining XY possition and volocity, then record your pressure and movement, all this with 4 tricolor led feedback (sadly no rgb) example - instant effects on pads: depending on corner you press it will assign it to different channel (or all in the center), then by reading your velocity, pressure, movement you coud control up to 3 parameter - all with one touch another example lower 4x2 grid could act as two f1 with 8x4 pads, and you could still map pressure and movment of your finger when you play clip for example filter or volume and those two circular controllers are ideal for deck control with led feedback, and you could use pressure to adjust seek speed |
Chasidy Heckenbach 18.04.2012 | i thought they were going to come in at 200usd which is more like 150eur. 222eur seems a bit expensive - tho it does have a lot of potential. would make for a great multi purpose midi controller but the only thing i really like on it over other controllers is being velocity sensitive and being able to turn the 4x4 pads into 8x8. |
Elfriede Osbourne 18.04.2012 | Look like they are cooming soon to stores, They are listed at Thomann with release date 30.04 and price 222 EUR http://www.thomann.de/pl/keith_mcmillen_quneo.htm I believe it will be killer controller, both for production and djing, one of them (or pair) and K2 |

Van Holod 21.11.2011 | Way to copy me, Matt. |
Caroline Mcgory 21.11.2011 | Hi, Wanted to address some issues/questions! QuNeo will be $200. Both now and in the future. We're very committed to making sure this is not only the best controller, but the best for the money! We're also committed to quality. The SoftStep (though small, light, and fairly inexpensive) is incredibly durable (carbon fiber, sealed components). QuNeo will be a high quality device! Any and all questions can be e-mailed to me at [email protected] Glad everyone is excited! We are too! Thanks Matt Hettich Product Specialist @ KMI |
Van Holod 21.11.2011 | Hey guys, Just wanted to let you all know that the QuNeo is happening. It is real, and it will be $200! |

I feel like the softstep is slightly overpriced for what it does and the quality doesnt look that great. But looks are deceiving.. any owners care to comment? |
Chasidy Heckenbach 21.11.2011 | i'm curious about the target price... could be quite high i guess due to the x/y nature of each drum pad. hope not tho unless the pads are really nice like on an akai or something. |
Cliff Lohman 21.11.2011 | Up to 33k now.. I would love to hear the story behind the production of this thing from conception to kickstarter funding to how the money was used and the final outcome.. Keith, please consider sharing? |
Ella Rick 21.11.2011 | I'll be keeping my eye on this, interesting! |
Adriana Bazzelle 20.11.2011 | I have not had a project on Kickstarter, but I have considered it. I picked up on this one and backed it and I also backed the Chip Maestro too. I'm glad Kickstarter is around cause these projects would have not got off the ground so fast. |

Micha Tollas 20.11.2011 | It's Look pretty sweet , i would like to see the final version It's can be a good concept , but for me it's not realy accurate compared to ipad |
Candy Vardy 20.11.2011 | Hey guys I just spotted this off Richie Hawtin's FB page. Its a new open source midi, USB pad controller from QuNeo, and IMO it looks fucking awesome.
