Using 2 Kontrol X1's to mix 4 decks in Traktor Pro 2
Posted on: 20.06.2012 by Shantay Avina
Has anybody tried to use 2 kontrol x1's with a four channel mixer to mix 4 decks in Traktor Pro 2? I'm believeing about buying this setup but im not sure how well it would work. If anybody has used this setup please give me some feedback on how you liked.

Thanks!

Well you would have to decide what to do without.. I have loop functions on the z2 so I mapped the loop as jog wheels (shift is relative at 18 % and normal is at 5%) I also have browsing so I deleted that line and added seek through track to it and with shift it seeks but less precision (as on the jog encoders). That's about it!

You can make two jog values (one with a modifier while pressing the encoder button as well!

The default mapping is fine for it, grids aren't an issue, there is already a pitchbend mapped to the X1 that works a treat.

The best part about this setup though is im not reliant on 1210's. So many times ive gone to gigs to find out theres no turntables or the shit they have there is pretty much unusable. Honestly I don't know how pure vinylists survive with that beat up gear

it shouldn't matter, the main thing is to make sure the ports are correct. post a pic of your controller manager showing your mappings if you still have problems with it

Thanks to everyone on this thread. Switching from all in one to modular & external mixer, and this has been informative. The setup will be DJM800, one x1, one f1 initially, then add turntables and perhaps maschine as finances allow.
Question: do I need audio 10 for that lot as I believe? Or is an audio 4 enough initially. And if I want to record mixes, do I need to switch to internal mixer for lack of outputs?

what's the 3rd x1 controlling, i ask myself?
I've considered a 3rd X1 in my setup as well, basically so I don't have to use the Shift modifier and hot cue button, so one X1 for each deck and F1 on the 4th deck, but then I have the problem of not being able to have play, stop and and sync for the F1 deck, so I've thought against the setup.

I've also been playing with the idea of remapping the FX so that they run horizontal rather than vertically so that they're the same as Traktors GUI, it really irks me why they did that in the first place

Cheers it looks like something I would like to try , do you run 4 track decks or 2 track + 2 remix

Not yet. I need to fix a couple of bugs. I tried to this weekend, but have been sick so didn't get around to it. I'll get it done this week and let you know.

I remapped the loop buttons on my X1 to control pitch up/down and pitch bend. Its surprising how quickly you get used to pitch bending without a spinning platter/jogwheels. It works really well.

Under X1 Preferences in Traktor you can choose the selection for either X1 as follows:

A+B
C+D
B+D
C+D (SAMPLE)

If you want anything other than that then you would have to remap such as stated by jojo above.

I just traded my S4 for a Xone:42 + NI Audio 10 and is trying to set it up with my two Kontrol X1's.

The X1's are placed on each side of the Xone but I can not configure them so if you count from left to right they represent
deck C-A-B-D.
The closest I can get is A-C-B-D in Traktor's X1 preference.

Any suggestions how to change the left X1 from controlling deck A-C to C-A?

why not just use timecode if you're already using an audio 8....?
If an event has a four channel mixer.... they have CDJs and/or Turntables.

Thanks for the reply Pancaker!

does anyone know if it's possible to switch the effects on an x1 so that it can control say, effects on decks A +B and then switch them to decks C + D? I want to run a set up with each deck having 4 effects, can get the x1 to control 2 effects, but have to use the mouse to switch on the other 2.
