How to solder .... there must be 100's of vids on youtube to help you there, but if you've never soldered before DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

Practice first on bits of wire, bit's of metal etc. so you get a steady hand and can solder quickly (if you spend too long on a pad, you most likely lift it off the circuit board due to excessive heat.)

good luck modding, and welcome to the club
although, you can scratch the carbon off and reveal copper traces
I tought I replyed this already but seems like my post has disapeared or something

Because I'm only working from a picture, i would suggest that you find a multimeter and trace the circuits.

From what i can seesolder points.jpg this is where you need to connect. Follow the same, check first, solder later .....be VERY careful that don't join solder pads together, I can't see whats on the other side, but those top connections look as if they may be connected to a chip which will be damaged if it gets too much heat.

I've soldered before but i'll have some practise anyway in order to do it perfect. JSM thank you very much for the advises.

should I solder the 2 wires from my arcade buttons on the 2 solderpoints?
How should i connect the 2 top carbon pads? (like it says in the photo)

Thanks, Alex

PS: boarderbas you could be more helpful, not everyone understands cirtcuits.

there is usually only two connectors, you can scratch the black stuff off to reveal copper traces you can solder directly to, or drill a hole trough for easier soldering (only if the board is single sided)
arcadebuttons also should have two connectors. Some buttons will have microswitches that have three points so you have option to invert the function.

I took a few pictures from my oxygen 8 v.1 It's not probably same as the v.2 and v.3 but should be similar enough for showing where the buttons should be soldered.

this first picture shows the pads under the keys, and under the rubber pads where the actual connectors are. there are total of 4 of black connectors and when two of them are connected, it will transmit a midi note. The reason why there's two connectors probably has something to do with velocity, since there seems not to be any more connectors for velocity. I have bigger keyboard with real hammer keys and it has a similar system but it has two connectors more for velocity under the keys.

If you don't want to mess with keyboard section, this could be good place to add the keys.

this could be also another good spot to add the keys, but If I have understood right the midi note is changed by the value of the resistor, so you have to either buy a resistor with same value as the original key or use the one from the board.

I hope this helps a bit

I dont have a tutorial im affraid but it should be trivial just track the connection of the keys back to a solderable point on the circuit board (their is likely a shared negative terminal then one or two positive for each key) and replace the key with the button. It probably dosent even matter which way you add the button, but be sure to practice soldering on a few scrap components first if your new to soldering (maybe buy a begginers kit) as once you have damaged the circuit board their is no going back.

I'd say it's not the hardest thing to solder, but If you haven't done any soldering before I wouldn't suggest it to be your first project, but with a little help it can be done.

Thanks for you're responses

Does anyone know of any tutorials? Or how difficult it would be to do (possibly to an Oxygen 8) ?

Looking to use it for Cue Point Juggling & controlling 2 effects units in Traktor...

Thanks in advance

but they will loose any velocity sensitivity if they have it.
