Replace AKAI LPD8 Pots?
Posted on: 14.03.2013 by Zenaida Carlsrud
Hi,
After having problems with one of LPD8's Potentiometer (bad tracking after a year of heavy DJ use) i decided to open it and check what's goin on..In my surprise i saw plastic Potentiometers so i decided to look for better quality to replace them but the guy at the electronics store said that there are special ones (it has to do something with the voltage don't know much..).Does anyone know where i can find better quality Potentiometers (maybe something metallic like that http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...entiometer.jpg) so i can make my own custom tank LPD8?
Or do you know any way i can stop pots from wobbling and get better midi tracking?

No worries. Those little things are really fast to open them anyways. Value and physical measures will take a few minute max.

Will be longer to find the right replacement part

I would be grateful if you'd help me find the right pots Steve!I'll wait..I don't know if it helps but a guy here : http://community .djranking s.com/showthread.php?t=28253 has some pictures from inside the LPD8..Or do you want to calculate the voltages with a multimeter?

I have a few LPD8 here, if you're not in a hurry, I may have a look inside to see what you'll need.

Well, there's still thousands of user here, Not everyone have a clue of what you're talking about, those who know, may don't have an LPD8.

If you want something to fit in the actual casing/PCB, I suggest you to have a look at Digikey, Mouser, Jameco, Newark, Allied etc

You should able to find a replacement with metal shaft that fit the PCB and case. It may take some time to dig their website though. You'll need to measure the value of your pot (should be something like 10-20K, linear ), then all mechanical/physical measure. OR use what you want, change the case, mod it... and waste bunch of time

Digikey, Mouser are the first place I look for most of my electronic parts need.
