Which DJ Gear should I get?
Posted on: 31.03.2013 by Marla Ballan
Hey Guys,

i would like to upgrade from my Hercules EP2 DJ Controller to a better DJ Gear. I just want to use Traktor with it and it should be as cheap as possible.

I really don't care if it would be a DJ Controller or a Mixer with 2 CDJs, because I believe everything is better than what I got now :P

best regards

Ahhh The Beatmix is kinda like a Virtual DJ version of the DDJ-WeGo... not a bad little unit

You can get a used VCI 100 Mk1 for around €100-120.

It's okay, build-quality wise (about the same as the Reloop stuff), but REALLY basic. Not much more of a step up than a Mixtrack Pro or one of the Hercules controllers tbh. You don't get a loop encoder or a move/beatjump encoder, tempo faders are really short, jogwheel resolution is WAY lower (I'm pretty sure they're quite a bit smaller, as well... the TM2's ones are about 6 inches wide), no rotary encoder for track selection, and it lacks balanced ouputs. It also only comes with Serato DJ Intro, whereas the TM2 now comes with the full Serato DJ & VJ plugin.

Excellent advice!

Though, if you're not happy, you're not happy!

OP, maybe this will help.

If you can't put together a half decent mix with the gear that you've already got, you don't need to upgrade yet.

If you regularly need new toys to keep you interested in DJ'ing, then it's probably not for you....

The EP2 has got button, knobs and faders - what more do you actually need to DJ? The hardware isn't actually doing anything - it just tells the software what to do.
You're right the EP2 got buttons, knobs and faders, but the Controller doesnt have a built in soundcard and i dont want to buy a 90

If you don't need jogwheels, it'd pick for that price a Novation Twitch, you'll have a lot of fun!! If you do need jogwheels, then Stanton DJC4 or Denon MC3000, both are great controllers with a lot of buttons (they're more "classical" than the Twitch). The downside of the three controllers is that no one of them come with Traktor (maybe the Denon, but I don't know). However, Itch is also a very good software and the Virtual DJ edition of the DJC4 and the MC3000 are great for beginners, after that you can get an upgrade to traktor!
