x1600 setup

x1600 setup
Posted on: 11.04.2013 by Mi Gabele
I have got a dn-x1600 recently and there are many options on it. I have been watching some videos how to set it up properly so I can hear the sound, but still no sound is coming out and I got to go to work...

I got a pair or mackie mk2 and xlr cables for it connected to the mixer, I have installed the asio drivers and updated firmware. The dn-x1600 audio is set up to default and usb mode is B.

I want it to work as a soundcard for my speakers and a pc like playing winamp. What I am missing?

Thanks.

After you click on the slider to select it, you can change it stepwise (by a value of one) using either the cursor-keys or the mouse-wheel.

Not sure, but it was definitely a 1600. Are you at 96K? I never saw much of a reason to be at 96000K and always ran at 44100k instead.

Depends of course on your setup (how many decks are used for Timecode, etc ...)
But, as example, if you don't use Timecode, you can try the following setup:

(1) On the X1600-Utility:

(1) Audio -> (7) USB Audio -> (1) USB Assign-> CH(annel)
(1) Audio -> (7) USB Audio -> (2) Out Sel -> set 7/8 to REC
(1) Audio -> (7) USB Audio -> (3) Preset -> set up the (USB)-channels (CH1: USB1/2, ... CH4: USB7/8)

Set up the input selector for each channel (either to USB1/2-USB7/8 or to preset P1-P4)

(2) In Traktor:

Output routing: external mode -> set up the outputs: Deck A: 1/2 - .... - Deck D: 7/8

Input routing: set Input FX Send : 7/8

Mix Recorder: Source: External / External Input: Input FX Send

I don't use Timecode myself, so you have to try it out for yourself if this also works when using DVS.
But if I remember correctly, it should be possible if you set up, for instance, Deck A+B for DVS and Deck C+D like above.
I believe that's how I had mine setup. Here's a link to my 1600 settings file. Be sure to do a backup of your settings before you try these.

Thanks a lot for sharing this info. I was having problems recording into Traktor because it was recording everything I was doing (even cuing of tracks, etc), and I couldn't figure out a way to record with 4 decks using nothing but my x1600. This advice worked! Thanks!

even the occasional pop or glitch is unacceptable to me at a gig. the audio 6 just does the job.
yeah, when you have a Audio 4/6/8/10 at home, there is little sense in re-adjusting your Traktor settings everytime you come home from a gig when you can just plug RCA into a mixer (of course, internal soundcard does provide you with benefits such as recording in Traktor while mixing externally & syncing mixer FX to the BPM in Traktor)
when you believe about it, buying a mixer with internal soundcard (Traktor certified or not) does save you a little money in the beginning but you still need to buy a external soundcard if you want to do gigs so... meh

Yes it is 44100k. So seems like I found a solution. I disabled the multi-core support option and now there is no cpu load spikes when a load a track! Never thought of this cus I got a 3-core running laptop (amd).

The other thing is how to set up the latency on 512 or 256 using denon asio panel cus I cant select it accurately?

Thanks for the help.

Why does it says X1700 on the file name? Anyways the only problem I am facing is glitches while I load track on any deck, so the cracking I get when I load a track is being recorded as well.

If I wont be able to record externaly than I see no point of having the EFX section which will not work probably on internal recording. Plus if I can't get it working properly with denon's sound card which was one of the reasons I have bought this mixer it is really dissapointing then. Atleast they could warn buyers who uses windows that they will face these problems.

I wonder when Jester will get his new laptop. What OS system will you be using then? Cheers.

well increasing latency helped, so my recorded file is no more cracking... Now if I load any track to one of the decks it cracks at that moment or there is no sound for 1sec while it is being loaded.

yeah thats right, my mixer is not always our gig mixer so its also a convenience thing.
however, even if you don't use the mixer's card, you can still use the midi clock and other functions with no problems.

Using tools like Latencymon might help you to find out if something else is interfering.
Or in most cases disabling the X1600 and/or internal PC soundcard in Windows sound preferences might also help ...

These hints can all be found in NI's Windows Tuning Tips, which are, in general, worth to check out:

Yes, only the recorded file. Sounds great, I will try it tomorrow as I'm busy this week.

The other issue I got is running it with ableton 9 standart, I can not run it properly as soon as I change the audio device ableton crashes and that is only when I try switching to ASIO. I dont understand why is that cus I have tryed many options and it did not work, but once it was working... Cant figuer out out why it was working. There are no other background app's running who uses ASIO, tryed with 32-bit and 64-bit.

I run a DN-X1600 /w 3 timecode sources / 1 remix deck using this exact setup and can confirm it works as expected. You can play back all 4 decks in Traktor and still record using external recording, broadast to mixlr, etc.

kazkox you need to set the mix recorder to external, source deck d, and change deck d over to live input on the drop down menu. deck d will not be used for playback, only as a recording source. same principle with any soundcard with inputs when recording externally.
or... you can just record internally and use the x1600 as a midi controller.

Have you told your PC to use the 1600 as the default sound card? When I had my 1600 I routed all the computer audio minus alerts through the mixer, but that was on a Mac.
