to be on topic, I remember when I was really young, around 6 or 7 years old, My dad took me with him to dig for his house set he was playing in a few weeks. Me not knowing anything, I went all the way to the back and picked out a record from the middle of some random crate of records. That one turned out to be DJ Keoki- Pass It On. Its basically my dad's favorite track and was his go to track for years.

I used to miss record stores untill they started opening up all around my area and cleaning out my local thrift store vinyl stock .

Now the hipsters are charging $20 for the records that I was picking up for 99 cent's a couple of months ago. Oh well it will die out again soon...

Virtually all EDM starts in naughts and ones these days, so the purest form you could get that music would be in .aif

Try and get that in a record shop?

----------------------------------------

You know nearing 40 sometimes makes me chuckle at the die hard vinylists. Had some lad wave a bit of plastic in my face the other day and ask if I wanted to hear this crazy new Techno track.

"No" I said.
"Why not?" he frowned
"Because it's not 1992."

i agree to a point with the sneering.. some stores are/were worse than others - but you just gotta build a rapport with them. after they know what you're into (and know your name) they're usually pretty good.

at least that's how i found them to be here (in melbourne).. didn't take long for them to know what i was into, and they'd keep copies of stuff i might like behind the counter before it went onto the shelf... and i miss that! (not just in EDM stores either.. i had an independent cd/vinyl retailer i used to frequent that would always have garage, rockabilly, psychobilly, country, dub stuff put away for me to preview)

I know what you mean, all good point, but still ... I like the Idea to have an exclusive and/or hard to find track on hand... kinda warm feeling inside to be unique... f*ck I'm so special after all LMFAO!

Fuck 'em, bro. It doesn't matter what anyone else does, it matters what you do.

Although I don't really get the "exclusive sounds" deal. I play other people's records in order to share them with the masses, innit, not to keep them to myself.

but I still find rare tracks (on vinyl) that people still hit me up about.

I miss them also, the last one around here closed just a few months back. I managed to get a steal on anything he had left in stock which was nice but it won't bring back that feeling of hunting for those lost gems.

i don't...... cause i have one a few blocks from my house been going there since i was about 12 or 13 years old, but i am gonna be sad once i move.. especially if there is no record store where im moving too!

nothing like looking through crates of weird music for an hour, then buying a few because they have cool album art, and finding out that only one of the records is worth listening too haha

I still buy records on a weekly basis. Thank God for Record Surplus and Amoeba Records...and Discogs.
