I've owned and legally updated Traktor Scratch since 1.0.... Yet still if I want to download a control CD google sends me to rapidshare??? I'm sure there's a way to get it off the NI site if I remembered my password or if I was on my DJ laptop but for shit's sake, this is a 2khz tone we're talking about, not some precious trade secret. Meanwhile you can download the competition's timecode *along with the program itself* for free any time without entering passwords, and a google search brings you to their site, not some shady warez site.

I'm just sayin'.... I love NI but some public relations expertise could go a long way.

fair enough but, there customer service is notoriously shit. Ive sent them a few emails regarding various issues and only once have they got back. IMO there poor

You gotta admit, thats probably why Serato has such a huge market share (which NI is trying to steal).

I thought the TTM57 / 1200s route was too expensive for me, so I went the controller/Traktor route, yet the club where I'm currently running a evening has a SL4 installed. Another sale to Serato....

14.07.2011		Just to add as to why you should prove you are a NI customer before downloading the timecode... bandwidth isn't free people. This isn't some small download.

And thanks JesC but I've got timecode vinyls. I don't usually play CDs but I thought I'd try it out - wanted to check out how fader start works on my new mixer - that's why I started looking for the timecodes in the first place. I have the "official" CD somewhere from when I first bought Traktor Scratch -- oh back in 2004 or 2005 maybe? So yeah I went to download the timecode and just assumed it would be easy to find even though I wasn't on the computer where I have Traktor installed. I realize it's not that hard to go into service center, or to log in to the NI site, or to retrieve my password if I forget it, but the point is there are some situations where jumping through these hoops makes sense (like downloading TSP updates) and others where it doesn't (like a wav file of a 15 minute "beep" noise).

Not a big deal, I found the timecode and burned the CD; I was just commenting on the persistent feeling that NI isn't as interested in cultivating a decent relationship with their customer base as some other companies.

14.07.2011		im not sure how having to login to service center makes people feel like they are doing pirate checks. I know it does act like that, but at the same time it saves me from opening uup a browser window and potentially getting distracted else where. Also with having to login to service center insures that you have the latest timecodes available.

15.07.2011		I understand the piracy motive but who pirates timecode? The service center is great for the software itself and updates to it and so forth, but I don't see how they would lose out by making timecode files easier to access. Anyway, I'm over it now

14.07.2011		I agree with you that NI can learn a thing or two when it comes to rewarding customers (shady upgrade options, charging loyal customers 300 euros for the scratch ability), but I believe the service center way of working is a rather logical one.

You can say you need to prove you're not a criminal or to check if your setup is the right one so no-one gets falsly disappointed. Also, it's a nice way to make piracy a little bit harder without limiting your customers.
