Finally getting in shape. :)

Hey folks. Its been a while. I've been incredibly busy and just wanted to give an update on where things have gone.

New brand officially as DJ Zoomski is up and I'm getting my foot in at clubs now. But I saw myself and realized I didn't look the DJ part. I was 200lbs at 5'8" and unsightly. I had man boobs and looked 9 months pregnant.

I decided enough was enough. I went from eating junk food, wings, and fast food every day to a clean, organic diet that is more than half vegan and otherwise containing fish and other lean meats/eggs. I'll modify it as I go and add supplements to eventually be mostly vegan, but I'm trying to at least be totally clean right now. No processed crap. No empty calories except for one beer/wine per week. Lots of water. Lots of....

EXERCISE. No life-changing weight loss is worth a damn without exercise. I'm doing Power 90 cuz I have no muscle to start from and P90X demands a base. Next round will be X with Insanity. I'm alternating cardio and sculpting 6 days per week and a rest/stretch day on the 7th.

When I told everyone how much I had lost in the first 3 weeks, I kept hearing things like "You'll put it back on." or "That's too much weight too quickly". All from heavyset people with no clue, of course. They don't realize that not only am I exercising, but I'm cutting back to 1500 calories daily from like 3000 or more and eating clean. I lost 11lbs in 21 days. I'm back up 2 today (Day 24), but its not about the scale really. I'm building lots of lean muscle! My gut has shrunk 2.5" and my whole body has shrunk in size by an average of an inch.

I am back in pants I haven't worn since high school. I was in 36s and am back in 33s. I was at one point debating XL tshirts to cover the gut. Now I'm close to wearing mediums again.

Here are some before and afters, not to brag (cuz its subtle to this point), but to inspire others and hopefully help end the obesity problems in our world.

Week 1 right, 3 left

I start a military bootcamp style thing next week now which looks pretty hardcore! But I've done the whole gym thing before but I get bored and can never get motivated on my own, I need someone to shout at me!

Glad to hear! Military bootcamp? Pass. Eating healthy is definitely the hardest part. I need to start measuring myself in stone. That sounds much less degrading. Heh.

If I miss out on the gym for more than a few days I feel like crap.

My concern with your diet is you are not getting enough calories to build muscle. Thats fine for the moment, your stripping the fat off. But for the amount of exercise youre doing you should be eating 3000 healthy calories daily.

Heres an example of my new diet I'll be attempting this year:

7 am (pre-gym): - protein shake with oats, creatine and coffee
8am (post gym): - porridge, bannna, nuts
10 am:- 2 eggs 1 egg white
12pm:- big sandwich for lunch
1pm:- protein shake with oats
3pm:- three riveta, cottage cheese & chicken
5pm:- Veggie detox Shake
6-7pm:-evening meal (preferably low carb)
9pm:- protein shake

This coincides with 5 days of heavy weight training and should hopefully see big changes in my muscle.

I tried P90X, my housemates were doing it at the time, HARDCORE! I lasted about 10 mins before collapsing with a bunch of swearing and groaning. heh.
Yea. I upped my intake to 1900 and plan to up it again as I switch slowly to muscle growth. I just wanted the fat off first. I don't follow any specific daily plan cuz my days are never the same, but I generally eat organic and add lots of grains and lean meats in. We do have a somewhat similar daily intake though. I do creatine, protein shake, eggs, and HFCS-free wheat toast in morning with my vitamins. Afternoons are generally veggies or Pure Protein bars cuz I am walking between classes or at the library doing research and need something quick and as mess-free as possible. Have a nice dinner and avoid frying if possible, but I am not overly worried about it once in a while if I use a healthy breading like flax and wheat germ or wheat breadcrumbs.

I do plan to up my intake to 3000 calories a day when I start adding lots of muscle, but I'm in no rush. I'm liking seeing the smaller scale numbers.

Haha. I'll do my best. I keep so damn busy that I forget to update. Trying to balance P90X, DJing, and a double major is insane.

Keep it up brother, the myth that we have to get sedentary and fat as we age is bullshit, man. I was looking every bit of 40 and was getting sir'd my people twice my age. I really am looking my age (23) for the first time.

Here's the latest pic. And my album of progress pics as well.

A big update:

Down to 175lbs and 20% body fat. Goal for 15% is 165lbs (12%=160, 8%=156). My gut is totally gone and I am lifting 3 days per week with cardio 3 days per week.

Bought a pair of vibram's five fingers and plan to do some minimalist and barefoot running. I'm running my fastest mile since early high school now. Working towards 6 miles per day on foot and 15KM on the bike.

Starting to see definition in my stomach and my face is really thinning out. I'll get some pics up asap.

No one needs to be fat forever. You can change it. Just get active and eat right and the body resorts back to its natural state over time. Since April, I've lost 55lbs, 23lbs just since December. You can do it too.

I buy a new pair every season. I have more Pumas than the Puma store. Have multiple pairs of driving shoes, fire-resistant race shoes, running shoes, cross-trainers, sneakers, etc. Its a weakness. Heh.

Thanks!

Just a little update:

Arms are really looking good. Shoulders and chest looking more toned. Sides and stomach still not what I'd like to see, but its a marathon more than a race. My legs are insanely ripped. I do an hour of elliptical and lots of running now so I expect that. But, my calves are rock solid, and my hips and ass are getting compliments. Not often the dude gets his ass checked out by the girls, but no qualms here.

Face is getting thinner and more chiseled. Growing a nice little beard for a while to compliment it cuz I hate being clean-shaven. Neck is thinner.

Bought a nice new pair of running shoes. Puma Faas 250s. So light and breathable. Not great for winter running due to how little insulation there is, but great for indoor running at the rec center. Starting to build my endurance for the spring race season. Can't wait to hit the 5K stuff.

I drink syntha-6, which contains tons of diff proteins like casein, whey, soy, milk, albumen egg, etc. Its dollar for dollar the better product, but it costs a bit more.

One thing to believe about with protein drinks is the kind of protein. Usually immediately after a workout I'll drink Whey protein, but if I'm having a drink with a meal or it's acting as a sort of meal supplement I'll drink Casein protein. The Casein takes longer to break down and last a little longer in my belly.

Woke up today noticeably thinner and with more energy. Ended up doing 45 minutes on the treadmill on top of my normal workout and went harder than I have ever went before and still had trouble getting my heart rate to the burn zone or even breaking a sweat. Craziness.

Haha. Thanks man. I was skinny fat (145lbs) for years then the metabolism quit. :/ Shot up to 230lbs. Gave up pop and dropped 30 in just over 6 months with no other changes. Now I'm kickin it in the ass and changing my life. I want to be the dad someday that mine couldn't due to his weight and health.

But yea, that is 3 weeks. I can't wait to see what I look like at the end of 90 days. Its never too late to change your lifestyle bro. My buddy's mom just turned 50 and is competing with me for most body fat percentage lost. Haha.

Just wish the stomach would shrink quicker, but nothing worth having is easy, health included.

Thanks! I put in a huge effort today to ward off the food I might eat. I ended up eating healthy today despite two different dinners with friends/family and just made that workout all the more rewarding. Hoping to do the same tomorrow before more gigantic meals await. Haha
