Err don't believe so, all you need is access to the app store so you can buy it (same with Lion), you can do that with an updated SL install.

I didn't have a single crash or dealbreaking bug except for the my soundcard's control panel (that won't open but the card itself works perfectly fine with Ableton). Safari has finally caught up with Chrome speeds and the address and search bars have fused as well (I like the omnibar concept), only feature it's laking atm is websites alerts for the notification center.

DP2 has ironed out a few of the problems that the first one had and the experience has smoothened quite a bit. Honestly I'm not interested in most of the features that are widely announced, but a few things under the hood and fixes to issues introduced by Lion are mostly welcome.

They are going for a full on 64 bit environment so my suggestion is don't upgrade until you are 100% your hardware will work with it or dualboot until compatibility issues get sorted.

NI 64 bit app incompatibility was announced at their site (or a sticky in the community can't remember), you always need to check that if you don't want to find out the hard way. What version of Photoshop were you running? I had no problems with CS5.

Summing up, this is how it feels to the moment

Really ? Everything just worked for me with the exception of needing to re-enter a few serials, maybe I'm just lucky.

cool..

I read there are a few other things that changed too. See below just in case you are interested. I got this from lifehacker.com.

• Access sharing options directly from Quick Look.
  • Search for applications in Launchpad.
  • Messages works with AIM as well as iCloud.
  • Apple Mail has a Priority Inbox-like feature called VIP.
  • AirPlay can be set as a sound output device for your entire computer.
  • Software Update lives in the Mac App Store.
  • Search directly from the URL bar in Safari.
  • Accounts for Flickr, Vimeo, and more can be added directly from System Preferences.
  • Interface enhancements have been made to Dashboard, the Universal Access system preference pane, and other areas to make them more iOS-like and easier to use.

thanks padi!

are you running 10.8 virtually, or on a "test" machine?

Sooo here we go again

Safari finally got an omnibar (like Chrome's) and it's a big plus. I haven't played with the DP too much but overall it feels quite snappy, a LOT more than Lion's DP1 so it's basically Lion Plus!. Only Issue i've had so far is that you need to enter your Live ID on each app even if you did on the setup window after installing and the back/forward swipe isn't working always, the rest of the gestures work nicely.

A big plus is that the OS now remembers if you unselected the option "Reopen windows when logging back in".

I'll surely post any incompatibility issues I find with Traktor and Ableton like I did with Lion before it got released.

If you guys have something you'd want me to test just say so.

Unlike with Lion betas, Chrome is fully functional.

Agreed. It looks like an iOS-looking clone of Growl. I have several apps that use Growl notification

I went to install it, but it is not supported on 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)

I have not upgraded to Lion (been hesitant) because everything has run so smoothly. I don't want to upgrade and something go wrong.

You can turn iMessage off, its just an app that you launch. The beta is available now on the Mountain Lion page. Ive installed it, syncs to your Contact list.

I have been waiting for iMessages on the Mac every since it came out for the iPhone.

I haven't been home to install it yet, but I hope I can sign out or turn it off. I don't want to get a whole bunch of txt's on my screen during my sets. lol
