Exactly. This is the norm, the more people you bring to your gigs, the more money you could ask upfront. Nothing to do with how well you DJ.

ERRRR you believe he gives a shit about some poxy little mix battle when he's got $11m in his back pocket! You might not like him (in fact this is the first time I've heard of him) but you can stick your perfect mix technique up your arse.... i'll take 11 million over that any day of the week! No offence intended.

^ good point, entertainment is a business and that 's the way it works

And you know, over the course of the last few weeks I saw two or three episodes of the Pauly D project and he's actually more of an OK guy than I thought. If you look past the douchebag clothing you might find a guy that isn't so bad after all.

who knows, maybe the man did have skills before the show blew up like it did, and his mtv popularity just opened the door a little more for him. its sad to say but, a lot of times what you know will not get you as far as who you know.

i can guarantee that if anyone of us on this site knew a club owner personally, ie best friend, relative, family friend, and you went to them and was like you let me spin for a evening . and for that evening you brought 100 people all paying for entry and drinks, hell probably be quite happy, rather than bringing the next guy who's dj battle champ in the local city 5yrs straight, but only had a 30 people following at his shows.

who you know and who knows you is key, what you can do is a bonus to that. everybody knows pauly d, from mtv, so where he is people want to follow, if he can keep the crowd happy and spending, a true business man will not give a damn about his pro dj ability. thats just my 2 pennies

I question all these highest paid lists. The only businesses that are required to publish earnings (in the US at least but it applies similarly in other countries) are publicly traded companies (i.e. those on FTSE, NASDAQ, DOW JONES etc). Those that don't have to publish numbers, don't.

These numbers are likely thrown together based on number of anecdotes, other equally questionable "news" reports and a lot of voodoo mathematics. Seems that these days, the world is only interested in reading words formed into a top 5/10/25/50/100 list.

As for this chap, let him do his thing. Plenty of people eat Steakums and consider it steak.

Fair play to him. As much as I might not agree with it, its business at the end of the day. We now live in an age that skills will not get you big gigs (i say this very loosely), marketing will and its hard to grasp to that, but its the sad truth and now if we want to get ahead we need to concentrate alot of time marketing. Like any industry, it changes, and this one has especially changed in the last 5 years or so, so drastically that most older DJ's can not cope with this transition and get very annoyed about headlines like these. It really does not bother me that much all these kind of headlines. I had enough of a bad time getting my head around the death of vinyl when the records stores started shutting and I had to finally move on. Once I got over that I realised that I had to move with technology and trends to get ahead and not just live for the moment. I am surprised to see skrillex ahead of David Guetta though.

How accurate are those figures for top 10 paid DJ's?
How much would say real top DJ's like Jamie Jones, Maya Jane Coles etc. make per gig and per year out of interest?
