Just moved to Pittsburgh from New York a few days ago and its a little weird for me. Beer is annoyingly difficult to get and if your not downtown or in a parking lot most likely your on a highway. Anyway can anyone help me with any venues or cool things to do around here? downtown kinda seems to be dead and the only place ive been chilling at is that whole area with ikea and the mall but thats not really my thing. Please and thank you

Damn...talk about a change of pace.

I grew up 40 min from Pittsburgh, now living in NYC.

Southside/Carson St is solid. Stage AE is a decent venue for live shows. I believe GloFest was just there last week.

im going to school at the art institute soon so ill be around there-ish most of the time. word is pitt is legendary for its record digging too so im gonna def try to find some shops. I hit up that giant eagle markplace though and holy fuck it dwarfs every super market i have ever been to in my life.

HAHAH this post cracks me up. I get to the 'burgh about once a year (im 3 hours east) and it's an amazing city. The alcohol laws in PA are just wack, you can't buy liquor and beer in the same place along with some other absurd laws.

Give it some time and I believe you will start to warm up to the place. I can't believe of any bars/clubs in particular, I normally stay around the university and hop around, but that would be a good place to start. And yes there are highways and overpasses everywhere!
