Help Needed: LED lights with NO heat sink?? Posted on: 22.09.2012 by Nenita Kenda Hi Guys,I'm in need of some advice and help. I've purchased these 3W CREE XPE LED lights from OCREEF. I bought 3 fixtures to light up my 6' tank and within only a few weeks 1 of 3 units has failed. Upon closer inspection I was surprised to find that none of the fixtures had any sort of heat sink. The vendor is stating that the completely flat aluminum PCB is the "heatsink" along with the fans. Unless I'm totally missing something here, I don't see how you can get proper thermal management with just a flat board. Every fixture I've seen has finned heatsinks that dissipate heat and it looks like either the fixtures I got are missing them or were not included as part of the design. I'm concerned because aside from the failure of the BLUE led circuit, all 3 of the fixtures have inconsistent output in the WHITE led circuit, with 60% of the LEDs giving off a yellowish color and the remaining 40% giving off an intense pure white color. I'm concerned that this could also be a sign of potential problems later on due to heat issues. Would appreciate any feedback to see if I'm mistaken on this, or if in fact, I've been shipped bad product. _____________________________ fluorescent led bulbs led ceiling lights led strip lighting | |
