Not sure how you Americans feel but the overwhelming feeling from over here appears to be one of relief.

Congrats to Obama and those of you that voted for him.

thats practically what happens in a tie. House decides president (AKA romney) and senate decides VP (aka Biden) and because they are oppositely controlled, in a 269-269, you get a mix. hahaha

Not really. The VP doesn't really do much unless the president dies. And I can't imagine anyone being forced to work with Paul Ryan (or Sarah Palin for that matter)....

in the US or Australia? They haven't announced any such tax here though there is some talk that Obama "may consider" it. Republicans still control the House so it's unlikely such a tax would get through but who knows; perhaps the election will push many of them to stop being so obstructionist. But in any case I believe carbon taxes might be a step in the right direction towards addressing global climate change, which is a real and continuing crisis.

Anyway, I'm all for four more beers. I don't expect a whole lot to change, but at least we dodged the Mitt Romney bullet, and affordable health care will kick in by 2014. The really big news was at the state level -- California voted to save education funding; three states approved gay marriage (and a fourth state stopped an initiative to ban it), two states outright legalized recreational marijuana and a third approved medical use, and California started rolling back criminal penalties based loosely on baseball rules. All in all, it was a good day for those of us who care about such things.... But we've still got a corporatist stooge in the white house who bailed out the banks but not the homeowners, increased government secrecy over the Bush Administration, and unapologetically sends killer robots around the globe for targeted assassinations. I'm really gonna need those four beers....

What he said.

To put it into perspective... At my last company my healthcare cost was about $800/month. After paying that I still have to pay between $20-$40 for a doctors appointment, prescriptions cost anywhere from $10-$50 a month, going to urgent care starts at $50 just to walk in the door and ER is the same but starts at $100. Depending on when and where you need healthcare you may end up having to use a "non-network" doctor which means that after all of the above, the insurance company may still only cover half of your medical treatment leaving with hundreds, thousands or tend of thousands of dollars of bills.

My son and I had a small fall down a few steps a couple of years back and had to get checked out at the ER near my mother in laws. I got an x-ray, a single painkiller and a bandage. My son got an x-ray and a some scrapes cleaned up. We were there an hour. after insurance it cost me $500.

I was laid off last month. In the US your employer has to offer you the opportunity to continue on your heath insurance plan for up to 18 months after you leave. My monthly cost has gone from $800 to $1200 for exact same coverage. Well, the same, except that its just for my wife and son. I am not covered. That would push it to $1800/month for all three of us.

Just some real numbers that real people are dealing with. So yeah, I am ok with Obama Care.

Same as it ever was (except for the "rascism lost" part)

Yeah glad he's back in but he really needs to step up and start to commit to some of the things he stood for in the first place imo

And from South Africa - maybe he can now lead, rather than clean up everybody else's mess.
