That airsoft mall is legendary! When I'm photographing airsoft I just use my kit lens or use a 75-300 and stay away.

Thats the State Fair of Texas and the only one in the bunch shot on film. I had to lay on my back on a slight hill to steady the camera enough. I also went through three or so rolls of film and that was the only one with lightning.

Yes that's the last one a few months ago. I believe all the other photos are from 2010 since thats the last time I went through and uploaded a batch of stuff. I almost never take pictures when I'm off the clock and that pisses my wife off to no end. We have almost no pictures of our kids in the last 10 years that weren't taken with a cell phone.

Oh those Full frame shots! I'd love to get my hands on one of them... alas, I believe money is better spent on lenses. I still have to fix my 35mm F2.0.

Less point, yes. And I still feel like digital wins for color (because E6 processing and color printing from positives or negatives is a evening mare). But there is some textural detail in B&W film + darkroom prints that I just haven't seen equaled with an all-digital process.

That being said, I don't know anyone who prints digital as well as some people I know who print B&W film.

And if you're not going for gallery quality prints, it doesn't matter. ……which is why I shoot digital.

Honestly, shooting on a Medium Format or Large Format camera is an experience *so* different from shooting on a 35mm/Digital SLR. It's worth experiencing just for the difference, I like it a lot more than shooting with a 35mm camera.

Also, I got my medium format camera (Yashica 124-G) for ~$30 (200SEK), so it doesn't really have to be that expensive
  • Agreed.
  • I know. Still…the experience is similar, no?
  • Agreed, though it's a lot easier to carry around an SLR, 2 lenses, and a flash (even with a second body) than an RB67 setup, which is what a friend has and basically all I've used in the MF world.
  • Agreed. The bodies & lenses aren't that bad. It's the film, processing, and printing that cost a lot of money. Even in Atlanta, there's only one place that does E6 processing, and they suck at it. My friend (who owns the Mamiya) wouldn't have even considered it if he didn't have access to a dark room…and he carries his d7000 with his Mamiya just in case he decides he wants to shoot in color.

Mostly old stuff I have on facebook. I real bad about saving my photos, I have backups of everything that ran in print, but almost none of it is online.

Right now I am on the fence..... a new 5D-III or a new set of 2 K-12's and a KW181 (with some $$ left over).

It's a tough choice that I am going to need to make pretty soon.

How about we post some of our shots?

I'll start...

Shot with a friends 5d classic + 24-70L

7d + 85L

7d + 85L

7d + 85L

Now that I'm posting these, I really miss shooting. I had sold my 7d last year to pickup a S4... Think I'll be getting a 5d + the 85L once I get the funds. Shooting was my favourite hobby before the dj bug bit me.

We have a broken 10D at work and Canon offered us a 7D for $1000 and a 5D MarkII for $1500 on their loyalty program. The cheap asses at work will most likely get the 7D even though I told them the 5D was the camera to get.

When the 5d first came out we were looking at getting a couple of them and I had a meeting with the Canon rep set, but the higher up's changed their minds before I could get my hands on one.
Agreed. I've seen them used on set before, usually places that they couldn't fit a fully dolly. Silent House was shot 100% with 5D mk2s (on steadycam rigs and with full lighting & everything else), and I believe that's kind of impressive.

Believe me, jumping ship to Canon has been a serious option. I sold most of my nice lenses to a friend (who needed them for legit work while I happened to be pretty cash poor), so the near future would be the time to make the switch……I don't believe I've used anything but my 35/2 in a while. I wonder how much a 5dmk2/3 and a 17-35/2.8 zoom costs (one of the lenses I sold)………then again, I almost bought a MBA today on half a whim. This 13" behemoth is starting to bug me.

I've always found funny the "ISO you can use" phrase. I personally push my XSi all the way up to 1600 (how I'd like to have 6400), and it still renders "usable" shots. It clearly depends on the purpose though, but unless you want to make huge prints it generally won't matter that much IMO.
Caleb Demillo
07.11.2012
The 5D III should be on your wish list The ISO capabilities are ridiculous. You can actually USE ISO 25600.

I really haven't done much with video just yet. A little... I have a decent set of lenses and picked up the Manfrotto video monopod.

Of course to get some of those amazing shots you see in films you need all sorts of gear around the camera, focus assist, trolleys, steadi-cams... It's surely an art! DSLR's make pretty terrible "camcorder" like video recorders.

The 5D MkII was a complete game changer in almost every way. Definitely THE camera on my wishlist.
