Best controller available

Just wondering what everyone's opinion is on the best controller out. It doesn't matter whether it's 2 deck or 4 deck traktor or serato. Id like to see people even go as far for instance to include standalone mixers like a Z2 that doesn't require tt's

Yes for me the MC6000 would be my top "all in one" however the traktor version of the DDJ-SX would be badass.

The buttons on the X1 are much nicer than any of those on the S4

Edit:

How is this any different from standard Filters? How many filters have you seen that use encoders?

Exactly.
To everything he just said.

S4 is not even close to a contender. It has among the wost build-quality of any controller most of us have ever seen, and it's ONLY strengths come from NI locking down features to give them exclusively to their own.... A failure which actually makes the controller WORSE than others, because it means you can't effectively remap it.

There's a big difference between the two. I'd say the S4 is still a contender.

And the fact that you can have it update parameters as you scroll through regular fx is priceless IMO, no need to play catch up. non click encoders for the job or endless pots with led/screen feedback.

Also why did they put on a Cue/Master mix mini fader in the middle? A standard pot would be so much better.
For EQing, definitely. Not so much for effects though; the fact that there are now TWO different types of effects (Normal and Macro) in Traktor confused the issue; you want pots with center detents for the Macro ones (and HARD detents, because even 1/100th either side and the sound changes drastically), and ones without for normal effects; encoders is a good alternative when neither type of pot is really ideal for every situation. But they have to be push encoders for that reset capability, otherwise they're a evening mare to use.

As for the fader, no idea tbh. Probably a design choice for some sort of "symmetry" between the two channel faders and the crossfader. I'd have used a knob, personally. I suppose it's better visual feedback though.

Are jog wheels a must for you? And what's your price range. If you can afford it, it's advisable to go get a pair of cdj's that have midi mapping features. My choice would be the Denon DNS3700 or 3900s, these cdjs have a real direct drive platter to control cds, usb sticks, or they can be put into "hybrid midi mode" and send midi over usb and timecode signals through audio at the same time. And a legit mixer that does midi as well. If you are anything like me, the more you use a program like Traktor, the more you long to ditch the laptop from time to time. It's nice to know that if you are playing live and your laptop goes down, you have a legit pair of decks and a mixer. But that will be pricy.

I have a Stanton SCS.1m and 1.d. Legit direct drive turntable with a real piece of vinyl to control Traktor. And one deck controls 4 in Traktor. It's pretty awesome, but there is a very small community around it.

If you want to get really geeky, an Electrix Tweaker is a good idea. It comes with a Traktor mapping as well as an Ableton Live mapping. Plus (and this is my favorite part) an editor software to build your own mappings and behaviors for buttons, knobs and faders. Also 8 velocity sensitive pads. It's a little pricy for a controller that has no audio interface, but all in all its a pretty open canvas of a controller. Honestly, I just got mine, and I'm overwhelmed with all the possibilities.

Actually, fuck it, as long as we're only talking about DJ controllers, technically speaking the CDJ-2000 nexus is the best controller ever made.

What a silly question.

Also how has nobody said BCR-2000?
I'd also make a claim that the Xone K2 is up there.
Midi fighter 3D deserves a spot as well.

Standalone?? I never owned one, but the MC6000 has been around long enough for me to call it fairly well built, def believe it's gotta be one of the best built standalone controllers.

Modular? I mean I really like my X1. Not much to it to go wrong, but at the same time I've never had a problem w/ it, and I dont recall seeing anyone writing about any malfunctions.

I like the S2 for sound quality, size portability, available mappings and the fact I use traktor.

Wouldn't swap it for any other controller on the market... maybe a VCI 400 EGE but even then that feels a bit cluttered to me.

But preferably i like to use X1, Audio 10, external mixer and, but not essential, TTs... So maybe the X1 is my favorite controller

There's no such thing. It's like saying whats the best car ever made? It all depends on the situation. Sure, for a rockstar a Rolls Royce is an amazing tool, but if you're a farmer, you're going to need a Land Rover since the Rolls Royce won't do too well on your farm land.

Pick the tool you need for the job. I have my member firmly jammed in Traktor's ass hole (Although sometimes it feels like the other way around) and after picking up an F1, the S4 was, to me a logical progression, and after three weeks of use it is indeed an absolutely phenomenal controller. For me.
