Ethel Feigum 21.04.2013 | I've been put in similar situations before, and it usually turns out that I already have what they really wanted. That being said, good on you for going the extra mile for the client and being prepared! |
Marshall Aby 21.04.2013 | To be honest, at the tech-house club I went to in a nuclear bunker in Shanghai, the Chinese DJs were playing what sounded to me like tech-house, and at the dubstep evening in a warehouse I went to in Hong Kong, the Chinese DJs were playing very dubsteppy stuff. As it was largely instrumental, I honestly couldn't say whether any particular song was Chinese or Western, so unless your man is an expert, I doubt he would be able to either. 'EDM' is geographically fairly homogenous in this virtually connected world we live in today. |
Jetta Drenzek 21.04.2013 | I did say Maddona, can I just say I totally called that? Not that I racially stereotyped a chinese person into liking retro American pop or anything.. |

Alphonso Deitchman 20.04.2013 | A businessman visiting the club owners to sign deals probably isn't at all interested or concerned about the music itself tbh. Mixing cleanly and entertaining the audience should give the best impression possible. |

Maile Dekerlegand 20.04.2013 | if it's all about trying to suck up to some older chinese business man you could try a club remix of some famous chinese song that most people would know from karaoke i.e. most chinese people would have heard of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deng_Lijun here is one of her most famous songs often sung at KTV: annnd here is some god awful remix for the club: https://soundcloud.com/tank_carter/siti-nurhaliza-ft-drake-yue it doesn't sound like a fun time DJing tho. |

Jetta Drenzek 20.04.2013 | Just find the latest chines charts at the bottom of the aforementioned site then (http://yue.sina.com.cn/) And just wing it. Personally I'd just let him be unless he specifically requested that I play chinese music. |
Dannie Dimora 20.04.2013 | Sorry , it's this kind of crap we get requests of... |

Alphonso Deitchman 20.04.2013 | +1 for Balkan! |
Jetta Drenzek 20.04.2013 | There's a lot of balkan dance you can slip into a set sneakily though. I know I'd dance if someone dropped some balkan goodness. In fact I'd dance to anything, so it's a moot point. Either way, just ask the guy what he likes and plug YouTube into the mixer. If it's a loungebar system I doubt the sound quality will be too noticeable. Mix in with a talkover or however and then mix out as normal. Problemo solved! EDIT: And you never know, he might say "I LOVE MADONNA" then you've got umpteen billion remixes to go for. |

Jetta Drenzek 20.04.2013 | I believe you're barking up the wrong tree. If you start playing loads of chinese music, you'll kill the floor (not in the dubstep way) and even if he does like them, he'll believe you're being a massive kiss ass. I get a lot of polish guys asking me to play some Polish dance and when I say "I don't have any" they are like "BUT VY NOT!?" to which my only reply is pointing out the 400 English people on the dance floor. |
Ena Nouri 20.04.2013 | I am 90% sure that Chinese people don't have EDM... They have Chinese pop tho, but it is nearly impossible to find the remix version of it unless you make one yourself. I believe my last name supports my statement... haha |

Jetta Drenzek 20.04.2013 | Have you ever considered the man came in because he likes the music you DJ anyway? A lot of English DJs get DJ gigs abroad because they are exactly that, English DJs, and as such know what the tourists want better than a native DJ. |
