I wasn't saying to ignore your boss. I was just saying to try and find out what the guy actually wants instead of assuming which you did.

If someone threw on some "Irish" EDM i'd walk straight out of the place because 99.99% of it is pure shite.

I'm talking about purely commercial balkan, say, severina-uzbuna. All these songs sound the same.
He seems to like 80's music , thats pretty cool
Actually the SQ is frickin' awesome, difficult to come by even at some clubs around here.

I've been put in similar situations before, and it usually turns out that I already have what they really wanted.

That being said, good on you for going the extra mile for the client and being prepared!

To be honest, at the tech-house club I went to in a nuclear bunker in Shanghai, the Chinese DJs were playing what sounded to me like tech-house, and at the dubstep evening in a warehouse I went to in Hong Kong, the Chinese DJs were playing very dubsteppy stuff. As it was largely instrumental, I honestly couldn't say whether any particular song was Chinese or Western, so unless your man is an expert, I doubt he would be able to either. 'EDM' is geographically fairly homogenous in this virtually connected world we live in today.

I did say Maddona, can I just say I totally called that? Not that I racially stereotyped a chinese person into liking retro American pop or anything..

A businessman visiting the club owners to sign deals probably isn't at all interested or concerned about the music itself tbh. Mixing cleanly and entertaining the audience should give the best impression possible.

if it's all about trying to suck up to some older chinese business man you could try a club remix of some famous chinese song that most people would know from karaoke

i.e. most chinese people would have heard of:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deng_Lijun
here is one of her most famous songs often sung at KTV:

annnd here is some god awful remix for the club:
https://soundcloud.com/tank_carter/siti-nurhaliza-ft-drake-yue

it doesn't sound like a fun time DJing tho.

Thing is, i call it the "club", but it's more of a loungebar, so the dancefloor is usually a couple drunk chicks who will dance to anything you throw at them. The point was pleasing the guy
We're used to drunk guys leaning over our gear asking for balkan music all the time, so unfortunately, in this "club", there's no killing the floor because paradoxically the floor is killed with every different genre of music we put on.

I am 90% sure that Chinese people don't have EDM...
They have Chinese pop tho, but it is nearly impossible to find the remix version of it unless you make one yourself.

I believe my last name supports my statement... haha

Nope. Because the man is a business partner with the owner of the club, so he didn't come in on his own. He actually flew in that day.

Just be yourself, what's the point of djing a set just for a guy, who maybe just want to listen and enjoy your personal way to DJ?
And there will be more people around, so take a look on them too
Play a set as you usually mix, and maybe you'll find him more interested, than just mixing the music that is popular nowadays on China

Well not playing in asia, but playing for some asian men that could bring us some great business deals so it's kind of the same :P
Also, why are most chinese songs slow 80's-style or hiphop? i can't find any 128bpm stuff except a couple tracks by some boybands...

Thank you very much we always have 2 laptops so we can listen to other music (people sometimes bring their own cd's/usb drives) before actually trying to mix it in
