And this is why /r/DJs is infinitely better than this community . But a traditional community can still function pretty well... They just need good moderators. Nearly all of the ones on here are the textbook "mallcop moderator".

This is why there is so rarely meaningful conversation on here compared to other community s. Everything that can be discussed without being crushed has already been said a billion times.
Hey whiskeyflip, how nice to finally show your true self once again.

Please do yourself and us a big favour and drop this act.... It was not amusing back then, and it's become pretty repetitive and annoying this time around.

All you do is make blind accusations without even dropping in any hints or clues how to improve, just bash away at a mod crew, which you seem to not approve.

I'm not even going to wait for you defence, here's a perm ban.

These are some pretty direct and very generalized statements. Would you care to provide some examples? I'd also be interested to know why you continue to be part of a community staffed by poor moderators where there is no ability to discuss anything?

I have been following DJTT for almost 3 years and I have definitely noticed this trend, I even had people come at me in a thread in a way I felt was uncalled for, and was happy to see it get shut down. Now seeing this thread, I am happy to see the new change of policy.

We should be accepting of everybody, to create a progressive diverse and creative community. We can all learn from each other, and flaming other people just puts a barrier between the knowledge that can learn.

I see this place as a forward believeing, open minded spot - and as a long time reader/member (not sure when I first signed up), I'm very happy to see moves that keep the atmosphere cool.

That ban was a long time coming. This guy has been a cancer on this community for a long time. Multiple incarnations, more pejorative with each "rebirth" and frankly, with little to add.

I personally went through all 105 posts from octostout and found little more than put downs, argumentative comments for argument's sake, offensive language and new user bashing.

If that behavior is cool with you then I'm genuinely sorry for you. Next time, please man up and just use your real nick.

Reddit handles the mod system quite nicely IMO; there are no post counts upfront or avatars, and the Moderator tag is optional and only used when necessary.

I'm on a lot of community s, and I have to honestly say that the moderation on this one is easily the worst of the ones I use. Not because they don't work enough, but because they work in cases where they shouldn't, and use their status as mods unfairly, causing or adding to a fair amount of the drama on here themselves.

I have to at least point out that there needs to be some work on the other side of the coin as well. Yes people are dicks and create a lot of work for the mods, but some of the mods use their position pretty unfairly, to bolster their side of an argument.

This community gets very circlejerk-y at times, and the moderators add to it by unintentionally (or honestly, occasionally intentionally) abusing their power. Some effort on the part of the mods to not get involved in arguments with that little "moderator" tag under their name giving their arguments false weight would be nice...

Yes mods need to step in when people are being dicks, but on this community it feels like they inflate disagreements by jumping in to share their personal opinion, just as often as they quell them.

I believe a real issue with people posting things in the wrong community is a consequence of the redesign of the website. For example, I know that there is an S4 community but if I hover over the community button I am given access to "Popular Forums". New members wouldn't necessarily know there is an S4 community . Granted you can click on the community button and get access to everything but new members may not do that and just assume that those shown in the drop down are the only community s. They would then go ahead and post in the General Discussion community as there is nothing else which fits the bill.

Wasn't sure if this should go here or in that other post with community suggestions but it seemed to be reasonable to put it here.

Cheers.

I don't get why you guys believe that's a good idea? Why flame anyone? This community is the most helpful and calm community I've ever been on, why purposely add something like that? You wanna flame someone, hit up reddit.

If you guys have any suggestions on how to improve the community don't hesitate to open a thread over here, this isn't restricted to features or functionality but organisation as well. We are interested in your feedback.

We try our best at keeping the community tidy but if you guys take the time to search for a previous thread and/or post in the right section then it becomes easier for all of us.

First things that come into mind are:
a) Not everything goes into General Discussion, please try and post in a relevant subcommunity .
b) Need feedback on a track/mix of yours? try here. Music Production subcommunity is intended on production/mastering tips and techniques.
c) Need help choosing a piece of kit? then this is the droid you are looking for.

We try to emphasize using the search, but that still seems to be too much effort.

Thank the LLLLOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRDDDDDDDDD. I'm sorry but this is much overdue...I barely ever check the community s anymore besides the show your setup and buy/sell because it was/?is? the same stuff.

I say banhammer for dj name threads (JK). Short rant here....I go to the "what should my dj name be?" threads just to see when the member joined (its almost always in the same month of the post). Do ppl believe they really need a dj name to be able to play music? is your stuff that hot that its gonna need to be recognized with a name? When I started playing music at parties and stuff, ppl would just give me a name for the evening , I believe that will be my recommendation in those threads from now on.

Sorry for the rant, but I would rather put it in here than rain all hell on a new dj in his own thread. Hopefully this doesn't take it off topic too much.

Congrats to smitten, I believe I read one of his blog articles once, good stuff!

I like it here.

I ain't going nowhere.

If I can help to make it nicer, I will. To do that, I might have to get a bit more tolerant...

Can I still tell noobs that they're NOT gonna be a $1m a set DJ after 6 months of buying a Mixtrack Pro and joining a record pool, though???

I'd like to make a suggestion. When i joined, the community was in good order. Off topic was involved off topic, general was in general and controller/gear threads were in their proper community s as well. Now we have a couple more community s to post in, yet everything ends up in general. I assume laziness as most hint that no other threads were even looked at. Could you lovely mods move threads more often?

thanks guys, you all do a really good job keeping this place somewhat civil, but th is is a step in the right direction.
