editeditedit: Thanks to shr3dder for helping me understanding how setups work with turntbles.

I'll just have to save up for the Kontrol Z2.

It can do just about anything and do it well, so if you're able to stumble onto one for cheap it's a great buy.

It's definitely not more expensive than the Z2. They're regularly on sale used for ~300-350. It'll maybe match the Z2 price after buying TSP2 and whatnot, but you'll have 4 channels vs 2 channels on the Z2.

Mfw reading all the posts above me

I just have a Macbook pro man, and I don't want a setup too complicated for my own well being.

If he has a MacBook, there are FW800 9 conductor to Thunderbolt adapters. Also, just received a reply today from a fellow that has a Zero4 and he said that it works just fine in Mountain Lion. I've only been using mine as a 'House' mixer so I haven't tested this out personally yet.

Alot of higher end PC's have/had 4 conductor FW400 inputs, so if he falls into this category a 4 to 6 conductor cable can be found fairly inexpensively.

You can't convert USB to firewire, but you can get one of those firewire cards that add in to the slot of your PC. Unless you have a newer (quite thin) laptop, there's a good chance your laptop still has this slot.

From a few quick searches it seems that USB to Firewire is not possible. How would you add Firewire onto a typical laptop?

You'd also need to add the cost of TSP2 on top of any 3rd party mixer.

There's a number of Korg Zero 4s all over eBay and GC that are still cheaper than the Z2 though.

I'm just trying to point out that the Z2 isn't the ONLY budget option.

Firewire isn't that expensive to add on to a computer either.

That Zero 4 has been sold already. I'm guessing with a budget of $150 he doesn't have a computer with Firewire too.

Again... Korg Zero 4.

I like Traktor Scratch, I've used it before and it's a great software with a lot of features.

And I've been using Traktor for a few months, so I'm already accommodated to it.

Besides, for $200 less for a controller + software that doesn't have as much as the Z2, I'd rather just make the investment in saving up. The Z2 should have more resell value than the AA 10 MXR too.

I need to use Traktor Scratch, so Z2 is the way to go I suppose.

I just hope I'll find the $599 deal by sometime in August, that's when I'll hopefully have enough to purchase it.

;_; Man, this is pretty limiting, I guess one way or another the Z2 is my only way out.

What softwares did DJ's like Fatboy Slim use in the 90's?

you said cheap 2 channel mixer American Audio 10 MXR it even has midi capability and it you don't need the mic you could map that to control FX. or go for the 14MXR and get 4 channel still at half the prize of Z1

The BCD3000 might be worth looking into though, you'd just have to get someone to clarify if it works as a DVS setup. I have no idea.

DVS is still cheap compared to CDJs :|

If you have firewire, consider picking up DjliquitATL's Korg Zero 4 in the for sale section. It's scratch certified, cheap, 4 channels, and in stellar condition. He knows his stuff and takes good care of it. He even has an innofader installed if you want that. That's the cheapest scratch certified mixer w/ built in sound card that I can believe of.

Do you want to play vinyl on the turntables? Like your own record collection... If so no audio interface nor Traktor is required. Unless you just want to mix internally with traktor, which is a little strange but fair enough.

If you want to use your turntables as a DVS setup with Traktor and your Mp3s etc then you need either a Audio 4/6/8/10 or a Traktor Certified Mixer. You can't just use any old cheap soundcard... It doesn't work that way.

Even if you do find a mixer for under $150 it won't allow you to use your Turntables with Traktor. It needs to be a Traktor Scratch Certified mixer and they don't exist for anything close to that price....

Like Stewe said the BCD3000 fits for what your asking (more a controller then a dedicated mixer though I'd say?) , I've never used one so I'm not sure if it'll work with Traktor Scratch but I'm sure someone here will know.

If you're looking to use DVS you need a Traktor Scratch Certified mixer/soundcard. IMO, you really shouldn't be trying to skimp on all these things. You're going to end up with either a really shitty pair of turn tables with a scratch mixer/card, or a crappy pair of turntables with no scratch certified mixer.
I'm getting a pair of Stanton Str8-80, so would I be able to plug them in into the Traktor Z1?

edit: nevermind, you can't.

BCD3k has phono preamps, audio interface and fit the price.
