Throwing unlicenced parties in the UK
Posted on: 27.06.2013 by Wynell Muma
hey guys,
Been believeing about throwing parties today as it's obviously something that's regarded as important kick starting exposure for yourself as a dj, however I was wondering about throwing illegal raves.

As far as i'm aware, you can't get in trouble if you organise a party through word of mouth and I know ways of doing this, but has anyone got any experience on here from throwing parties or raves away from civilisation?
There Is obviously a lot of planning involved I know but getting advise of people who are experienced would be greatly appreciated!

Also I'd prefare opinions of people from the UK for obvious reasons

I heard rumours of a law that says they cant impound your gear if its rented (or you say its rented) not sure how true that is and i wouldnt bank on it but if pushed to that point would be worth a go

I never went to any raves in Blackburn around that time but a few friends did and said they were good - apart from the police afterwards.

Used to be LOADS of illegal parties on the Isle of Wight. Nothing like being in the middle of field, looking up at the stars and trying to figure out what your name is....

There used to be a great community that I used for outdoor freepartys wich was NTA303.CO.UK (NTA = Northern Techno Alliance). Unfortunately the police became aware of it and began raiding and shutting down many of the parties. It would be great if someone could start a good northern (UK) based freeparty community /community again.

my advise. just start doing such raves, but avoid to use the internet for advertisment. only word to mouth!
in the city where i live we have like several outdoor parties during the weekends in the warm months.

One thing to consider, is that if you did throw an illegal raves and the rozzers turned up, they'd be wearing those hi-vis stab vests. RAVE POLICE! WOO WOO!

Of course, you could blame Thatcher for Acid House, and the boom of Rave Culture in the UK, as she was in power at the start.

Cheers Iron Lady
Actually Thatcher did inspire an incredible renaissance in music devoted to hating her, mostly punk rock but certainly including electronic music. But more importantly, her economic policies helped substantially increase the number of young people in various cities who were without work, living on the Dole, and feeling increasingly "left out" of official society and culture. So in that sense she certainly is responsible for the rise of acid house and the boom of rave culture!

Heh, I had a good old time re-discovering old punk songs about dancing on her grave and the like when she died recently. I loved punk rock back in the day and while there were a handful of songs about Reagan (who was responsible for the same sorts of policies here in the US), there were always so many more from the UK, and most of them were much more clever

If memory serves it was called the RAVE act, they made it stand for something like "Reducing America's Vulnerability to Ecstasy" (no joke). It applied previous laws that were dubbed "crack house laws" to raves, and "raves" were defined in terms that included something about "repetitive music". It didn't pass in that form though (thanks to some pretty politically engaged raver types and a letter writing campaign encouraged by drug legalization and free speech groups), but it passed a few years later with a different title. (It was ultimately passed under shady circumstances, being attached to a child abduction bill so that nobody would oppose it. Annoyingly, the Senator responsible for that deception was Senator - now Vice President - Joe Biden.) Probably more than you want to know about it
