need famous dj names for my budget!

Hi,

I run a club 45 minutes outside of london in a town. I'd like to ask the community to recommend some big name DJs for me

If you're talking that sort of money, you can either get someone famous, or someone talented.

The question is, do you want to give your audience a fantastic musical experience, or do you just want to draw people in with a big name? They'll be more likely to come back for future events if you do the former.

I speak from experience here; one of the venues I work at has "famous" headliners every week (DJs, not pop artists), people like Oliver Lang, Brandon Block, Foamo, Jonathan Ulysses etc. And unfortunately, they just play track A into track B and it just sounds like EVERY OTHER DJ out there. To me, it's boring and does the audience a disservice; if I was booking DJs for an event I'd want people like Moldover or Bass Kleph, people who can do live work and give the audience a completely unique performance; something they can't get just by listening to the latest Ministry of Sound album.

Personally, me, Patch and a couple of others would be happy to split

this is common with smaller places and when a headliner has multiple bookings

r3hab is going to play an awesome 3 hour set later this month just because he's playing at Story instead of a place like Mansion.

YOU have a lot to learn bro.
Well, it's not Miami.

If you are booking names that are known in practically any household that listens to Top 40 and pop mainstream radio then you are not talking 3 hour sets.

Yes, if you got someone over like Todd Terry, then you would be looking at somewhere around 3 hours, but he's obviously looking to get more mainstream known acts

i dont know but by booking a headliner and having them only play for a single hour,
you are assuming all the people coming for the headliner are coming at the same time
What do you do with the rest of the 5 hours for the evening ?
Book 5 other no named djs?
or book 2 others and have them play longer than the headliner?

i have to ask because it just doesnt add up

...Or you could employ a promoter who will do the job properly and you won't end up getting ya pants pulled down by every agent in industry cus they will charge YOU what YOU will pay not what the artists actually goes out for.

Seriously dude, you are setting yourself up for a fall here. Get a promoter who knows how to approach agents and do the job properly.

Funny kind of post.

You could pick up a variety of music mags and see who's drawing the crowds. A quick google of Tim Westwood or Tinchy Stryder easily puts you in contact with their agents.

Asking here may be good for getting name underground Dj's, but not really mainstream ones. You could go through Radio 1 DJ names of who is doing the Friday and Saturday evening slots, or other late evening slots where they may have a following and are playing some genre of dance music. Of course if you're going for Tim Westwood, there are also the Trevor Nelson types.

TS, I would do some research - why not put a post up on the fanpages and portals of the club and see who people want to see, without mentioning your budget.

The 2 names you've mentioned above are sort of in your range -

Prices are one of those things that people just don't discuss openly on community s for larger name acts. If you know, you know, and if you don't, you have to earn the knowledge
