What is with MP3 Music Packs for sale on Ebay?
Posted on: 29.08.2013 by Cammy Demos
Hey Guys,

I searched for this in the community s but didn't come across anything.

What's the deal with Ebay sellers putting up collections of 100+ new house/tech/prog/etc. MP3s up for sale? It seems to me like this is illegal, but ebay doesn't pull it down. I always want to support the artist, so I am assuming I would never purchase these. I wanted to get some other peoples take on them.

If the seller posts the tracklist, he's opening himself up to more scrutiny as the producer and label can search for their names. They contact EBay, Ebay bans user and seller loses his rating.

If the tracks are taken off any of those sources they more often than not are under CC or ALR. In any case, no one has a right to resell them (they were offered for free ffs)

This list actually allowed me to genuinely check out some of those artists on Soundcloud. And, like I said before, the post with the link to the actual Ebay auction is still in this thread! If anything, that should have been removed. Whatever.
Yes but it was illustrated to me this way.

"if someone see tracks they like on that list, they might be much more prone to purchase the pack off ebay, than If they really didn't know what the pack contains."

It would be like promoting the pack. which I wouldn't feel right about.

hey... im just going along with the rules.

I completely understand, and FULLY agree!!

I merely purchased it to resolve the OP question "Whats with MP3 music packs on Ebay"

Maybe, but they kept the post with the link to the ebay auction where you can actually buy it. The list would actually help you BUY the individual tracks from a legitimate source rather than buy the pack just to see what's in it.

Yes it is all very high quality (320) stuff. Alot of artists I've never heard of and a couple pretty deep tracks.

All in all, definitely worth the $$.

Well I guess that makes me some kind of pirate now.... Aaarrgggg Bitches!!

Hahh laughed at that, so damn true, sometimes in small clubs you don't have 258+ and 320 is like heaven .

I should record a 128 mix.

I do not promote copyright infringement!!! I am betting I probably have every one of these tracks in my collection already.
Says at the bottom of that listing that royalties have been paid to MCPS; that alone would put me off, since the PRS are basically a big, semi-legalised group of con artists.

Will be interested to see what you end up with though; my money is on a bunch of generic tracks made in Fruitloops.

Illegal is a VERY interesting word.

Suggest (if people are interested) they do some light reading on the difference when something is "legal" or "lawful".

Yes making a copy and selling it or even giving it away for that matter is illegal.

Now with so many mixes and demos and just tracks flying around on the net, the lines become a little hazy..but...

Selling multiple copies of a track and not paying royalties is highly illegal....at least in America.

You might be surprised to find out that all evening clubs are REQUIRED to pay ASCAP and BMI royalties for its dj's to be able to play tracks. (based on the number of people the club holds).
All of this is very country dependent.

Yes it is illegal at the moment in Australia, but they are trying to change it, the recent study the government did into geo blocking etc had a lot of recommendations regarding allowing digital files to be resold.

This article isn't a bit more australian central... http://apo.org.au/commentary/selling...have-stuck-cds

With regards to evening clubs in Australia, clubs (actually any business that plays music, even cafes, clothes shops etc) have to pay a license fee to APRA every year (similar to the ASCAP/BMI stuff in the US)

That money gets 'distributed' to artists on the club charts. So the system is a little crooked. Big artists get lots, the smaller guys get f*ck all.

Peoples opinion on piracy seems to be selective depending on the media in question.
