APC 40 Mapping W/ full Led and VU meters!
APC 40 Mapping W/ full Led and VU meters! Posted on: 16.08.2010 by Romeo Peede I picked up an APC 40 yesterday, and after 10 hours of headache learning about this thing, I finally got past the "send monitor state Windows sound crackle."For those that don't know, to fix, open ableton live, set APC40 as controller, see "red square", quit, and open Traktor. All LED's will work without needing the "send monitor state" command. I will have a fully functional 4-deck TSI up in this thread within 8 hours for you guys! it's almost done. I do have a question if anyone can help me it will speed up this process. Do any of you know a way to have a 1-button reset of the filter or EQ. i'm looking to be able to adjust a filter or eq, then on the drop of the beat, hit a button and reset the filter/eq. the Trick is to also have this update on the controller (so traktor says the filter is at top center and the apc40 knob is also reset to top center, and not where you had just turned it to). I've tried a great many things, any help would be appreciated. THANKS! | |

What I did do however, was put thin strips of sticker between the lines of buttons in order to visually separate Deck A and B. I use the APC for Decks A and B, and my VCI-100 is in 4 deck mode, so it controls deck C and D. I use the DVS system on the C and D deck. Its a RAD lil rig! Will make a movie! |
Irwin Ney 28.09.2010 | How are you doing with your apc sara? How do you label your buttons? |
Lilliana Perris 28.09.2010 | @ Derders Dude. LOVING YOUR MAPPING! Rocked out at the club about 2 weeks ago....like a madman! I have added a few things. Like Tempo Bend and Bass EQ Kills...and added my GAINS to sliders. Thing is....the EQ Kill buttons are just below the Bass EQ knob. I want the lights to go on....when on...and off....when off. I tried doing the Out command....but not sure what the values need to be. Would be AWESOME if you could throw me a bone. Thanks! |

Lilliana Perris 24.09.2010 | I gotta add.... My VCI is gathering dust.....and is GREEN with Envy. This APC solution is just fucking awesome! Wanna get the 1.4 Firmware tho.....and I believe the VCI will make a come back! |
Reece Murray 21.09.2010 | No- that just puts the apc in dumb mode (behavior entirely programmable), so that you can do what you need to do without having to use "send monitor state". Otherwise I believe you can route outputs through Bomes MT or use a mac to solve the glitching. |
Kaitlin Zylstra 18.09.2010 | I'm a little confused on how to fix this send monitor state problem where you get noise feedback in traktor pro using APC40. So all I have to do to fix this problem is simply open Ableton, close it, then open Traktor Pro? |
Reece Murray 05.09.2010 | Yo, I have a distribution version of the APC40/VCI-100 + Traktor/Live synced hybrid rig that some of you asked about, ready to go. I have an APC40 only version as well. If you're interested in testing, please PM me directly, I don't want to clutter up a thread that's not mine. Remember, you need Traktor, Live, BomesMT, Jack OSX (free), and a mac. I'll try working on a windows version in the future. Cheers! |
Romeo Peede 20.08.2010 | @derders good catch man, yeah, i had output 3 to 3! thanks! |
Reece Murray 19.08.2010 | There ya go! That's the momentary output command in action! It's a good feeling when shit just works |

, couldn't sleep, and i fuckin got it! so remove all mappings to your filter to try this. THAT MEANS INS AND OUTS!! haha, learn from my mistakes! ADD IN > Filter > Deck A / Fader / Direct (this is the knob you use for filter) ex. CC48 The Next two are MAPPED to the RESET BUTTON!! ADD IN > Filter > Deck A / Button / Reset (Resets position on screen) Add IN > Modifier #1 > Button / Hold / Value = 7 This tells your led to reset to top center: Add OUT > (Map to actuall CC#, not cc+8) ex. CC48 > Modifier: M1=7 > Deck A > Controller Range : 0 to 1 Midi Range 0 to 64 uncheck blend and invert! This one tells your lights to behave like a "pan" encoder Add OUT > (Map to CC#+8) ex. CC56 > Modifier : M1=7 > Deck A > Controller Range: 0 to 1 Midi Range: 1 to 1 This works perfectly! i hope you all like it. |
Lynetta Piacentino 19.08.2010 | A bome's mapping file is welcome as well (maybe your file is a good reason for my to finally buy the program and get rid of the 20 minutes limit ) |
Reece Murray 19.08.2010 | @Makio: yeah man, that's what I'm talking about - like let's say you have "reset mixer controls on load" set. The new track is loaded and the eqs are reset to 12 o clock on-screen. Of course the APC doesn't do anything unless its told, so you give it some output information. At first I figured that adding outputs to the rings would be the end of it, but that resulted in jitter, something about a conflict between the position the APC believes its in vs the output info its getting fed. So I set up a modifier as a hold button on the same buttons I load tracks with, then made the output commands to the rings dependent on that modifier. So basically whenever I load the next track, the eqs are updated to what's on-screen via a momentary output. Make sense? If anyone has the time to check, this work-around may not even be necessary using the CC+8 trick. If you haven't heard about it yet, the rings operate on the CC# they send, plus 8. So for example, if a knob sends CC50, the ring accepts output to CC58. I haven't tried sending output to the +8 using only Traktor (I use this a lot in Bomes though), but it might solve the jitter issue. As for uploading a tsi, I'll do my best to get to it. My current setup is way, way tangled into Bomes MT, so I'll have to look through old files to see if I still have a Traktor only tsi. |
Ardis Fauth 19.08.2010 | Hey man, good stuff! Clean build and release in the effects explanation video! I am currently developing my .tsi for my APC and ill drop it soon once I clean it and debug it, as well as add notes, etc. But I believe all of us APC users can really benefit in a big way if we ban together. Good ideas cant wait to see more! -Matt |
Romeo Peede 18.08.2010 | here's the FX vid. cheers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55FGLz49eXM |
Romeo Peede 18.08.2010 | yo guys, here's a tsi as i have it right now.. with our powers combined!... lol. quick explanation video.. uploading effects explanation as we speak. -Matt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLVBTf-SGv4 |
Kandy Ahdoot 18.08.2010 | good times |
Romeo Peede 18.08.2010 | Zach, when you say modifier dependent output, you're getting the rings to update to their new position, but are the knobs re-setting to the same position in the program? that is my main issue... also, i should be done with my mapping today, i'll upload the tsi shortly! |
Toni Hinga 18.08.2010 | +1 for testing |

Reece Murray 17.08.2010 | That's not true man, my own mapping has these reset features built in. It just takes some creative problem solving. I've got instant fx setting recall and updating, and eq updating using the trick i mentioned above. If you don't put the APC40 into dumb mode (ie just don't open Ableton at all), you can benefit from the built-in banking with the track select buttons. In this mode, selecting a track select button sets the device control section to transmit on a different channel depending on what you select. The knob positions are remembered for each of 9 banks - channels 1-8 and master. If you wanted knobs to update say, when you switch fx, just set output commands to the corresponding channel. |

Lynetta Piacentino 16.08.2010 | Hey we we're busy with a 2 deck mapping but maybe the way we used FX's can help you with this? Check out the thread here on DJTT: http://www.djranking s.com/community /sho...d=1#post150164 Maybe we can create some kind sticky somewhere with various TSI's (like your 4 deck TSI, my 2 deck TSI featuring full cues & fx's, and I believe there is someone else as well who had a great 2 deck mapping as well with some different layout) Let's join forces |
