Question about effects mapping
Posted on: 22.11.2010 by Chae Gnatek
Hi Guys, I've got a little problem with mapping my effects.

I have a Korg NanoKontrol, on which I'm mapping my effect.

Let's say, if I turn a knob to turn an FX slot into advanced mode, and I then want to press another button afterwards to turn the same FX slot into Chained mode and at the same time load some effects with my personal settings for the parameter. (like on the VCI-100 Ean Golden TSI)

The PROBLEM is that I have to press the button TWICE for it to shift to my preferred parameters - When i press the button the first time, the fx slot turns into chained mode and loads my effect - but it takes another push to load the parameters.

Does anyone know how/if I can manage this without having to double press the button?
(the button is set to momentary on the Korg Nanokontrol, in Kontrol Editor, if that has anything to say)..

In your controller editor try resetting the values you want to apply to the effects. Sometimes that'll do it.

Otherwise you can store your preffered effect values directly in traktor. Map up a button to store your current effects parameters. Im pretty sure it works on chained aswell as advanced mode. I use this on all my advanced effects and it works a charm. Not really tried it on the chained though.
Tried that, and Yes, it works. my problem is, when using the same effect slot for advanced and chained effects

I have the same problem. But I have seen Ean Golden doing that with the midi fighter video (instant echo freeze). On the video there is also a popup tooltip saying that "the effect is loaded and setup automatically". I have downloaded the midi fighter decalized mapping and tried to figure out what is going on but found nothing I haven't tried. I started a mapping from scratch and did the exact same steps in the midi fighter mapping but still needed double clicking. I don't believe that Ean is also double clicking the button for instant echo freeze effect. Wonder how he manages it.

Sounds reasonably mate,
but it's still a pain

It problably doesn't matter - but I don't want the button to turn on the effects - just set my parameters.. still isn't possible?

I don't believe NI was really expecting people to go so crazy with the effects initially. What I believe is happening (I'm a software engineer, sorry if it doesn't make sense), is it loads the text and all of the knobs and stuff, and parallel to that, the effects themselves get set up and ready for mashing on and off without a hiccup, in the code. If you've never done audio processing, it's hard. It's hard because what musicians want doesn't always translate to being simple or intuitive. (Like an engineer's low pass filter and a musicians low pass filter, entirely different beasts) So maybe having one button load in three effects, then set the parameters and activate it would take a long enough time where you couldn't really perform with it, so they decided on a case like that to have one button just load it and once it's all loaded like it should be, you can mash the button to perform with it. Think about how fast you could really push the button twice in a row, not in a matter of a few milliseconds, which might be just enough for the code to set up all the ... stuff.

Just my thoughts on the subject, do I sound crazy?

Damn, that too bad
Should be fixed..

Unfortunately, this is how it has to be done, I don't know of a way to load and activate with one button.

you have to double press I believe, like on the DJTT VCI-100 mapping.
