Where can I learn midi-mapping? Preferably online. Posted on: 15.02.2011 by Darlene Strohbeck Anyone?Someone said the Traktor bible is a good start, but I was hoping for more of a free option. I have an M-Audio X-session that I wouldn't mind mapping to traktor as a basic back up controller. Thanks. | |

Ok Moroski 16.02.2011 | I learned by taking the DJTT mapping with my vci and looking at the mapping itself. Thus I'd look at a control, say "play/pause" and see how it was mapped out in the mapping. Then I'd created a new mapping and try to duplicate the functionality myself. I did this for a few controls and got the gist of it. Having a small background in programming (BASIC and C++) also helped for understanding some things like modifiers. In my experience, the subtleties are best learned by trial and error, or by Googling things like "traktor midi range" or whatever specifically you are looking for. There are also a lot of posts in the community about mapping, so look for specific issues in there too. There are also a couple of articles on the DJTT blog and videos (if I remember correctly) on the DJTT YouTube channel. That's how I learned, all free. You do need to be careful because some controllers are a bit non-standard (the APC40 comes to mind) so use Google to look for any mapping issues people have come across with your controller. All of the above helped me make a 4 deck APC40 map from scratch which works great. Good luck! |
Cristian Carmona 16.02.2011 | i tought my 13 yr bro last week how to midi map. I told him how to do it from scratch and he mapped a x-session that I gave him. Once we were done I told him to delete the TSI and start all over on his own without my help and it he got it. start with the easy stuff like the crossfader aka x-fader and the volume fader (hint you have to invert it to work) |
Charline Dye 16.02.2011 | If you are using Traktor, the Traktor Bible is a must have IMO. |
Eli Hergonz 16.02.2011 | just dont be lazy and start from scratch and you will learn on the way because you will want more, and more complex stuff in midi programming. |
Charline Dye 16.02.2011 | Hit up my YouTube channel, link in sig. Go to playlists, and play the midi mapping one. |
Marguerite Truka 15.02.2011 | In my signiture is a link to my book it is free however donations are allways nice. This book starts from the basics. It talks you though modifiers. All the way to making a super combo mapping like eans |
Doug Bieling 15.02.2011 | It really isnt that difficult depending on what you want to do. once your controller is setup in traktor, just find teh function you want in teh list press learn , then press the button on your controller. Best way is to just mess about with it. There was also a thread only yesterday that was started with quite a few midi mapping techniques in. |
