I've been really busy lately and haven't had a whole lot of time to play with my controller settings, but here's a slight change from my last.

"Balance" knob now dedicated deck gain A/B+shift -the "Scratch" button

"Gain" knobs now dedicated wet/dry

"Monitor" and "Vol." now control A/B filter, but work as normal when shift is held.

^ Ignore the "attatched" tsi as it still has the buggy master level outs. The "Energy12 Minus Tempo LED's" has the master level outs deleted from it.

This is the my latest version. It's very stable. It has the jog wheel effects mapped back into it. Cue selects and deck load buttons work as normal. "Folder" is the toggle for effect parameter 3. Cue select buttons then toggle effect control deck A/B. "Load deck A" pressed once loads the beat slicer. From then on activates/deactivates it. "Load select B", the flanger. You can't screw it up as long as you keep an eye on the "Folder" LED. (Modifier M5)

Hold "scratch" and press hotcues to delete them.

I would have mapped more LEDs, but I don't believe there are any LEDs in the load deck buttons or those search buttons above the jog wheels. This controller also doesn't seem to like any more flashing LEDs than the the sync buttons and the kill buttons from what I have found. What is everyone else's experience with this?

It WAS the tempo LEDs! Apparently my controller does not like multiple lights flashing to the beat. I simply deleted the LED outs to Tempo Add Out 17, 8, 32,and 21, [Edit}and Master Level 41 Left 18 Right 22. There was also a deck setting on 17 that I fixed. Heres the file for it.Energy12 Minus Tempo LEDs.tsi I'll be working more on the mapping over the next couple of days and see what I can come up with.

I hope I explained that well, if you have any questions or complaints, feel free to ask. If you play with the controller a bit, you'll get the hang of it.

Its the better maping i have tested. Im impressed!!

Thanks for the explanation, after a 2 hours of practice works lie a charm!!

Many, many thanks, my best wishes for you!!

Thank you to dsharp and energy12!

I've had my Steel for over a year now, just using the basic Hercules file because I couldn't find anything else as stable. All the while wishing I could use those effect buttons as hot cues and the jog wheels for effects. The idea of completely mapping out the controller was too intimidating......so now you got me reading the articles on MIDI mapping and trying to learn what I can.

Great idea on using the EQ's and gain knobs for the chained effects, dsharp. Those clicky knobs suck for effects! Completely unpredictable when trying to spin them fast.

I really like how energy12 refined the LEDs on the buttons. From what I read, usually one would map the LEDs to the button that your mapping. I noticed for each of the EQ kill buttons you deleted one of the "add out" LEDs and added one from a "add out" # in the 90's I have the button mapping, but does not show add out #'s 72-99 Do you know where I can find the out/LED mapping?

For some reason energy12's TSI has an issue with the left pitch fader. When I move it, Traktor slows down and the music crackels and cuts out. I assumed maybe there was a conflict in the mapping but I'm having trouble finding the source. Does anyone else have this issue/solution?
[Edit] I deleted ALL of the EDIT OUT portion of energy12's mapping and the stuttering problem went away. The bug must be in the edit out/LED portion of the mapping. I read on another thread that someone was having similar symptoms because of the tempo output or whater makes the LEDs flash to the beat. I'll have to start there tomorrow.

I want to map the cue select and load deck buttons to their original state, but use the folder button as a modifier toggle to activate those buttons for effect 3 like dsharp's setup. My issue with that though, was when I hit flanger when using the slicer, it automatically loaded that effect in the off position while everything else is still on. Maybe if I map the load deck buttons as toggle on/off for those effects I can prevent that? or some sort of modifier to turn everything else off when an effect is loaded?

Nice mapping, dsharps, that one pretty much works all around.

I like what energy 12 was trying to do as well, but am having transport issues with taht one. I believe I will work wit the first and maybe upload my own version.

Hello, i just registered to share my modified Version of dssharps' config.
I changed the following:
-Unmapped the Special-FX-thing which used the 4 buttons
-Mapped Cue Select to turn Cue on Headphones on/off
-Mapped "Load Deck A" (Without scratch) to delete Cuepoint, so hold it while pressing one of the Hotcues to delete it on-the-fly

Some Led-stuff:
-Cue Buttons now give LED-Feedback: If any type of cue is set, the buttons led is on

-to differ between EQ-Kill and Effect on, the kill-Button will blink if Effect is on and stay on if Kill is on (whichever was set last)

-"Mini-Equalizer" with Folder, File and Scratch leds: shows Master Level in 2 steps (Folder/file and Scratch) and also differs between left/right channel (Folder and File)

Maybe also changed some other things I didn't like, but I do not remember at the moment.

Thanks for your mapping, was already great and i made it to fit my needs.
gr. energy

just swapped from VDJ to traktor, sure is a bit tricky with the hercules steel! But I will give your config a go, and see how I like it Atm working on getting the LPD8 mapped just the way I like it, getting new controller + swapping program... I believe im getting migraines now after 5 days straight staring at the pc fiddling with configs...

Terrific!. It sounds very good all about the fx's. The factory mappings for that issue are very poor. I'll try your remap. Thank u very much.

I actually just finished mapping my steel. I can give you a rundown of the controls.

Left side is Deck A, right side is Deck B. They're mirrored, for the most part.

Cue, Stop, Pause/Play all work like you'd expect. The light on the Stop button comes on as the end-of-track warning.

Sync works the same. If you hold "Scratch" (used as a shift button) and click one of the Sync buttons, it will set that deck to master.

The forward and back buttons above the jogs skip 8 beats forward or backward, if you hold Scratch, they load next/previous song in the list.

Crossfader is normal, as are the deck A and deck B volume sliders. The Master Volume is only active if you hold Scratch, as a safety thing. The pitchfaders are inverted for personal preference (sliding away from you slows it). The pitch bend buttons are tiny tempo adjustments, for beatmatching by ear.

Balance works normally. By default is controls Deck A. When holding Scratch, it controls Deck B.

The EQ kill and knobs all work normally, as long as the green shift buttons are OFF. So, this is where it gets a little more complicated. The controller is set up to use 4 FX banks. 1 and 2 are both chained, 3 and 4 are advanced. When you start traktor, FX 1 should be on Deck A, FX 2 on Deck B, and 3 and 4 should be off. When shift is turned ON, Gain acts as dry/wet for FX 1, and the High, Mid, and Low knobs/kills control Effect 1, 2, and 3 respectively. Kill turns them on/off, the knobs control effect parameter 3 (the most useful one, usually).

When Shift is OFF, that grouping of 6 buttons below it controls looping stuff. 1 is Set In, 4 is Set Out, 2 and 5 increase and decrease loop size, 3 drops an 8 count loop, and 6 toggles loop active. If you play with it, you'll see what I mean.

When Shift is ON, that same grouping controls Cue points. They act as the Select/Set+Store command. So if Cue 1 doesn't exist and you press button 1, it will save Cue 1 at the playhead. If it does exist, the track jumps to Cue 1 and plays from there.

File management. The four directional buttons in the middle are used for this. Hitting up and down moves you up and down through the track list. If you hold the right arrow ("Files"), a full-screen track list pops up, and the jogs can be used to scroll through it. Let go, and the list pops back down to normal. The "Folder" button loads the track into the little preview player, though it's not terrible useful.

To load a track, get it selected first, then hold scratch, and press "Load Deck A" or "Load Deck B" depending on what you want. The holding-scratch thing was a safety mechanism, I've pressed it accidentally too many times, and it's a disaster.

If you press either load deck A or load deck B without holding scratch, it does something else. That row of four buttons there - the two cue selects and the two loads are used to control the Special FX mode. Activating Special FX allows great control over either of 2 FX for extra dj fun. FX bank 3 is used for this. Pressing the left Cue Select button activates Special Mode on Deck A. When you press it, the left Jog wheel controls Parameter 2, the right controls Parameter 3, and the Master Volume slider controls Parameter 1. Press Cue Select again to turn it off. The right Cue Select activates it for Deck B. The SFX mode is designed for the beat slicer. When its on, the control scheme is a ton of fun to play with. Hitting Load Deck A changes the effect to a Flanger, and Load Deck B changes it back to the Slicer.

Sorry if that was confusing. If you mess around with it for a bit, you'll get the hang of it.

Just a little more!

That dopey Apply Control button with the three lights in the upper left is used to select effects for use with the EQ controls. When the light is on for "Deck A" you're changing Effect 1, "Select" is for Effect 2, and "Deck B" is for Effect 3. The left clicky knob above that scrolls through the list on Deck A, and the right click knob does Deck B. So if you press that button until the light is under "Deck A", you can change Effect 1 for both Deck A and Deck B with the left and right clicky knobs respectively.

One last thing. The Monitor and Vol knobs in the upper right control the Filters. When you hit Shift on Deck A, it ALSO turns on the Filter, so be careful where you leave those knobs. Shift on Deck B turns on the Filter for Deck B. Holding Scratch and using those knobs make them control Monitor and Vol like they're supposed to.

I hope I explained that well, if you have any questions or complaints, feel free to ask. If you play with the controller a bit, you'll get the hang of it.

I use the steel! :-D only thing I wish I had on it was the mic port, but the built in sound card... meh. sorry but tons of LEDs Midi CC AND an I/O multu channel soundcard, ON USB BUS POWER?! No... ANYWAY... You can mod my mapping if you'd like... I'm using it in a DVS setup right now but the jogs and such are decks C/D all you'd have to do is change the deck in the MIDI control panel...

*sigh*... And I just looked at the original post date... noob... OWELL! xD

I would just follow some of Ean's tuts for modifiers and go at it yourself. It's really the best way. Unless you find someone that has a great mapping, the best option is to do it yourself. just take it slow and don't get frustrated

I don't know if this will work but install the MIDI mapper for the hercules, this is somewhat like the korg editor or enigma for maudio and korg nanos. it remaps the midi cc's on your device to whatever I have them set. Now i don't know if it will work since your device has a couple extra buttons. but it's worth a shot. I would make a backup of the one that comes with your device though. Like a factory settings.

Try it out if you would like.

its close, theres 2 more buttons and 1 more knob

try the normal hercules mapping for starters, you can always start here and see if its missing funtionality in your opinion....

i dont believe we have anyone on here with a steel. i believe all the herc people use rmx's.

have you tried the rmx one? not sure if it would work, just curious
