Retriggering sample while playing
Posted on: 09.04.2011 by Jenny Pow
so im mapping my midi fighter to be a drum machine on tp2. I want to set it up so that if the sample is already playing to just start it over (and not stop it as it currently does). Im believeing my problem might have been because i was tired last evening but would love your guys knowledge on this one.

Thanks for the pointer. Using that plus using Slot Start/Stop instead of play to get the sample to play out completely if I don't retrigger it made it all work out.

I have a follow up question on this I'm hoping someone can help me with. I mostly got the above working to a point.

I'm trying to set up an M-Audio Trigger Finger such that I can use decks C & D as a sort of drum pad to jam on over my DJ sets by putting 8 different one shot drum hits in. So I need the sample in each slot to play out but also to retrigger if I keep tapping the pad just as the OP was asking about. That part seems to work fine for me. The problem is retriggering the slot after I let it play out the first time.

Here is the scenario's I'm seeing. (note that the Trigger Finger pads send midi note on when pressed and midi note off when released. if there were a way to just make it a static trigger that might make things easier too?) Anyhow... to the scenarios I have....

MAPPING: Sample Play - no modifiers
Tap the pad - starts playing, tap again - stops playing, tap again - starts playing (working as expected)
Tap the pad - starts playing, let it play out, tap the pad - starts playing again (working as expected)

MAPPING: Sample Play - Modifier is Slot State = 1 (loaded not playing)
Tap the pad - starts playing, tap again - Nothing happens, tap again - Nothing happens, slot plays out to end (working as expected)
Tap the pad - starts playing, let it play out, tap the pad - nothing happens, tap the pad - starts playing ( why is it that the first tap after it plays out does nothing? I shouldn't have to tap it twice to get it playing again, right? )

So now what happens when I combine the retrigger mapping suggestion from this thread I can launch a sample and retrigger just like as if I kept tapping away on a drum however if I let the one hit drum sample play out without retriggering it then I have to hit the pad again without any response happening before I can correctly relaunch the sample.

Is this a mapping issue? Is it something with the way the Trigger Finger works? I was looking at the Enigma software for reworking the midi singles that come out of the Trigger Finger but Im having a lot of trouble figuring out exactly how to make that work right so I'm hoping there is a simple Traktor mapping solution.

Cheers!

Thanks Mich!

The 0-2 thing was throwing me off cause Tp1 only had 1 and 0 to represent play and stop i believe.

Thanks again

hi, you need to make use of the modifier states.

your start/stop slot command should have the modifier state "slot state [approporiate deckslot] = 1.
your retrigger slot command should have the modifier state "slot state [approporiate deckslot] = 2.

slot state 0 = empty, slot state 1 = loaded but not playing slot state 2 = playing
