LPD8 - Traktor 1.2.4 Mapping (DCM plays with stuff) Hi there! I just bought the LPD8 controller in order to replace huge in size BCR2000 (playing with mixer, 4 decks and BCR is cool but when it comes to play 2 deck set with turntables the setup grows severly in size). I mostly play deep and tech house and my setup is aimed at using effects and loops in quick way and even at the same time. I don't like all the stutter effects which can be done by using Loop Size mapped to knobs so it won't be one of this fancy mappings with Hot Cues and stuff Just try to quick get what I want during set. So there are two Presets programmed right now: 1. Effects section - Preset 1 - pad - Right now just two effects mapped (Unit 1 and 3) - 3 pads per row mapped as fx buttons, one as modifier to select deck for each effect and to change effects. The modifier button also lights when there is track end warning and triggers pads to show to which deck effect is routed. Also modifier keys sends "Send Monitor State" so it resets all buttons states on the LPD. CC bank is not mapped yet. 2. Combined loops and effects - Preset 2 - Pad & CC - At Pad bank there is mapping for Deck A loops, at CC for Deck B. Pad 4, 8 and knobs are common for Pad and CC and controls effects (unit 1 upper row, unit 3 lower row). Left over pads are loop triggers. When desired loop is switched on it's pad blinks with the beat (that was a hell lot of clicking ). To turn off the loop you simply push the blinking button. I hope above text is intelligible if not here is the list of functions in format: [pad, knob]: function1/(modifier key)function2 etc. Preset 1: PAD: Pad1: Effect Unit 3 On / (Pad4) Effect Unit 3 to Deck A Pad2: Effect Button 1 / (Pad4) Effect Unit 3 to Deck B Pad3: Effect Button 2 Pad4: Effect Unit 3 modifier Pad5: Effect Unit 1 On / (Pad8) Effect Unit 1 to Deck A Pad6: Effect Button 1 / (Pad8) Effect Unit 1 to Deck B Pad7: Effect Button 2 Pad8: Effect Unit 1 modifier Knobs: K1: Effect Unit 1 Dry/Wet / (Pad8) Effect Unit 1 Select K2: Effect Unit 1 Knob 1 K3: Effect Unit 1 Knob 2 K3: Effect Unit 1 Knob 3 K5: Effect Unit 3 Dry/Wet / (Pad8) Effect Unit 1 Select K6: Effect Unit 3 Knob 1 K7: Effect Unit 3 Knob 2 K8: Effect Unit 3 Knob 3 Preset 2: PAD: Pad1: Loop Deck A Size 8 Pad2: Loop Deck A Size 16 Pad3: Loop Deck A Size 32 Pad4: Effect Unit 3 On Pad5: Loop Deck A Size 1 Pad6: Loop Deck A Size 2 Pad7: Loop Deck A Size 4 Pad8: Effect Unit 1 On CC: Pad1: Loop Deck B Size 8 Pad2: Loop Deck B Size 16 Pad3: Loop Deck B Size 32 Pad4: Effect Unit 3 On Pad5: Loop Deck B Size 1 Pad6: Loop Deck B Size 2 Pad7: Loop Deck B Size 4 Pad8: Effect Unit 1 On Knobs: Same as in preset 1 but withouth modifier function. And Some thoughts, ideas and future work: 1. There is no control of effects units 2 and 4. I don't know how to program them to be easy to use, withouth the need of preset changing on LPD8. It needs 3 steps to do that and when you dj 3 steps to do such thing is lot of wasted time The idea is to use Preset 1 CC bank, but there is a problem with the knobs which are not changed by PAD and CC buttons (this feature suck, it should be at least modificable so you could have two layer knobs). I thougt I could program the modifier buttons to change knobs state (for example by pushing both modifier keys at the same time). But with that I'll be force to resing from End Of Track Warning feature, because I'll have to know which effects are controlled by knobs. 2. In preset 2 there is also problem with effects Firstly it need's to be decided to stick for example fx units 1 & 3 to deck A and 2 & 4 to deck B otherwise it will be confusing to use for example fx 4 to deck A controlled on the layer of loop from deck B :/. Secondly there is again problem with knobs (damn you akai! ) and it's even worse when you get in mind that keys which are modifiers in Preset 1, in Preset 2 are used to Turn On the effects... Two buttons more on the device and the world could be beautiful with LPD8. What do you believe of that setup? Maybe someone will have an idea how can I tweak all the stuff to be more confortable. I know maybe I wan't to much maybe two decks with two effects are ok? But the thought that I could have more in such device can get me sleep . There's also another thing maybe someone will write some software to tweak the LPD8 inside fo example to change the Program Change button behaviour like you can do with BCR2000 using BCRManager software. | |
