Map buttons to specific effect levels?
Posted on: 06.10.2011 by Cara Silagyi
Im relatively new to the mapping stuff, and Im a little stuck. Any assistance, would be appreciated. Im sure someone has done a similar thread to this, but in doing some digging on here, I couldn't find a specific answer to this..

What I am looking to do is assign a set of 4 buttons on an APC 40 to turn on, and essentially "jump" to a set percentage of the effect. This would look like..

Button 1 turns on effect A, and puts it at 25%

Button 2 turns (or leaves) on effect A, but to 50%

Button 3, same, but to 75%

Button 4, same, but to 100%

Hit any currently engaged level button again, and it toggles the effect off all together(and possibly have it reset to 0% as well).

Thanks,

Eric

Thanks for the help. I found the effect value you guys were talking about. Its under Button Control, Set to value, there is a little window to edit the percentage of effect when the button is pushed.

This is kind of what I was going for. Thus far I have the sliders mapped for the fx, and dry/wet. They control the amount, and for the fx sliders, they also switch the effect on/off when they hit zero.

By putting the fx on sliders like this, I can control the levels of all six fx, and both dry/wets at once if i wanted to. I loose a fine control with the more I move at once, but it makes it fairly easy to control the dry/wet, and 2 or 3 effects at once. Its easier than trying to turn 3 or 4 knobs with 2 hands. Or you could raise 2 fx levels, and have a hand free to be doing something completely different, instead of using 2 hands to control 2 knobs. :P

I also have the effect percentage buttons mapped to turn on, but I haven't figured out how to get them to turn off when pressed again.

Let me know what you believe. I designed le layout it to complement an S4, not to really work as a stand alone. Ill use the S4 for most of the transport, adjustment (jog wheels), track volume, and tempo controls. Basically the meat and potatoes stuff. Then use the apc 40 for the fancy pants effects, loops, eq kills, and cue point controls. Not my white apc btw. I just thought it would be easier to label.

Cheers,
Eric

Yeah just set the effect amount. Pretty simple really.

When your mapping, you can use FX Group > FX Amount and do that a few times with the different buttons and program them specifically (:

There's quite a few good tutorials on YouTube about it
