S4 filter on / off neutralization
S4 filter on / off neutralization Posted on: 30.11.2011 by Ivan Guting Hey guys,I just recently bought an X1 to go along with my S4 because I feel there are a few things that the S4 is lacking. Mainly EQ kills and filter on / off. I've mapped the bottom 16 buttons on the X1 for the EQ kills and filter on / off for each of the four decks. Everything works great except for the filter on / off. The S4 turns off the filter when the knob is at 0 and turns it on when you start rotating the knob. I've played around with creating an S4 user mapping to neutralize this, but I haven't had any luck. Does anyone have any idea on how to accomplish this? Thanks! | |

Ciera Roarke 05.12.2011 | Even if you could get your thing setup the way you wanted there might be some lag. I say this because I wanted to setup a button macro to mute a channel. I did this by using the channel filter set to 0 (full low sweep) and the low kill on the eqs. Combined it works really well at shutting of 100% of the sound, and its great because it maintains the original volume you had before muting. But there is a noticeable lag on this im guessing its form the filter on/off so i believe using an fx unit is your best option while mainting good latency on the action. |
Ivan Guting 05.12.2011 | You've got it. I could do it the way you're saying, but it would just be so much nicer to use the knob meant for filter. Oh well. I guess it's not a big deal. |
Ciera Roarke 05.12.2011 | Just to be sure were on the same page, the action you are shooting for is: Filter on a channel pretty high/low hit a button to immediately go back to the channel audio without the filter applied. Benefit being you dont hear the sweep up/down back to the origin point ? You could use an FX deck with a filter to do this. Its a little more setup to do the action because youll need to enable the fx bank on the channel you want to filter before starting your filter sweep, but it would allow you to map the button to shut off the filter without hearing the sweep, and you can put the knob back into its origin point without it re-enabling |
Ivan Guting 05.12.2011 | I thought the same thing, but the S4 filter on / off overrides your button being held and if you set it to hold a direct value or reset the S4 filter knob jumps to the value the physical control is currently at. It doesn't seem as though this is possible. I'm leaving it as a filter on / off right now so if I feel like sweeping one way and not coming back to zero I can, but I can only do it once a track. |
Ciera Roarke 05.12.2011 | you could map the button to also set the filter to off with a hold action so while your holding the button you can turn the physical filter knob back to the original spot. |
Ivan Guting 05.12.2011 | I've tried that without much luck. It pretty much acts the same way that filter on / off does except I can't turn the filter back on again. If somehow I could make it hold the zero value so I could return the physical knob to zero then it would be great, but no luck with that either. |
Ciera Roarke 05.12.2011 | you could have the buttons on the x1 set the filter amount to 0 using the direct option, instead of toggling the filter on/off. And by filter amount = 0 i mean having it in the center, probably 0.5 in the controller mappings. |
Ivan Guting 30.11.2011 | Thanks for your reply. That is what I was afraid of. The first thing I tried to do was to map the filter knob to filter on and to have it toggle, but it won't let me learn the knob. It's really too bad that it works this way. I guess I'm not even sure why it must turn the filter off when at 0. I'm still trying to believe of some sort of workaround for this. I'm open to any suggestions. |
Kecia Wnukowski 30.11.2011 | you can't if you use the embedded mapping, as you can't twist it with a user one as knobs can't be set as buttons in a user mapping. |
