Pro & Cons of using X1's in native mode vs. midi mode

Got an S4, really love the thing but hate how the mapping is locked down. I mean you cant change ANYTHING !?

I made a mapping for my x1s to control fx 1234 and some other stuff. But i hit a brick wall trying to do something that required a button working like a knob, so im believeing ill need to rewrite the whole mapping in midi.

Before i start Im wondering if there are any downsides to running it all in midi as opposed to native.

Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure you should be able to use the "Auto Repeat" option to make a button act as a knob (assuming that's the effect you're going for...). I'm not in front of my X1, so I could be wrong on that one...

NHL has a much higher resolution for analog controls. From the Native Instruments website: "NHL protocol allowing 30 times more data to be processed compared to regular MIDI". I don't really see it being a big deal on the X1, though.
