Back to back with a Serato DJ
Posted on: 26.08.2012 by Dominique Caughill
Hi,

I had a gig last evening DJing with a friend and towards the end of the evening we decided to go back to back. He uses Serato and I use Traktor Scratch Pro 2.5. I was going to use one deck and he the other. However, when I plugged the 1210 back into my Audio 6 and tried to beatmatch what he was playing I couldn't adjust the pitch. That is, when I adjusted the pitch slider on the turntable, Traktor didn't respond. I couldn't adjust the slider on the software either.

Am I missing something in the software? I'm believeing this is an Internal v External mode thing. Can I use an external mixer and use internal controls at the same time? I usually only DJ by myself with an X1 but if I wanted to go back to back again then this could be a bit of a problem.

What did the calibration scope look like, did it display any interesting text, did TSP react to record movement at all (backspinning, cueing...) ? With what kind of timecode record ?
And as oneapemob said - settings.
Make sure the deck mode is set to track control and either of the two vinyl buttons is lit up instead of the playback sign (basic, but I don't know how familiar you are with TC control in traktor). And always check things with the scope at least during setup.

did you have the other virtual deck loaded and set to master while the sync is engaged?

It probably has to do with some settings, or because traktor "auto changed" the settings when you first unplugged the turntables.

There is no reason why it shouldn't work.

The things to try in those situations are : try and recalibrate the tcv, go into preferences (traktor's) and check if everything is allright, pay attention to the deck mode ( is it internal, external, etc...) and worst case scenario, reboot the laptop or traktor.
