Dirt in my S4, need help / advice on possibly cleaning Posted on: 04.06.2011 by Julietta Mistretta Played a river party last weekend and it was pretty windy. I had a towel to cover when I switched off with the other DJs, but when I played I could see that my S4 was getting covered in a fine dust.I dusted off the top as best I could using a fine-bristle paintbrush, but I know there is quite a bit of dirt inside. The biggest issue is the faders / pitch now feels sightly gritty and rough when I move them around. Is it safe to use, say, WD-40, razor / trimmer lubricant, etc., on these sliders? If so, does anyone have experience doing this? I definitely do not want to attempt taking this beast apart. The other DJ brought his 2000s / 800 out and mentioned he would be "sending it in for cleaning" - does N.I. offer this as a service? Searches around didn't turn up too terribly much on this topic, so any help is greatly appreciated. | |

Leeanna Ayla 06.06.2011 | Even if you can't take it completely apart opening it up a little bit might help give the sand somewhere to go as you blow it out. |
Jacque Divinity 06.06.2011 | yeah definitely compressed air before trying anything else... maybe even one of those usb powered vacuums for cleaning keyboards. if you dont mind voiding your warranty i'd take it apart for a proper clean. |
robin loo 06.06.2011 | i cleaned mine some time ago with compressed air and the long thin straw you get with the cans. the dirt actually got blown out (dust and tabacco  ) |
Julietta Mistretta 05.06.2011 | no i have not tried compressed air, as i figure it would be blowing stuff further into the device. i dont have any problems with it and over the course of a 3hr set last evening , the grittiness seemed to fade a bit. i will check with NI on other options, but as this is my main device playing out i am unable to be without it for a month. thanks, |
Leeanna Ayla 05.06.2011 | I wouldn't put anything wet inside until the dirt is out. And I would never put WD40 in it. Try the compressed air, but if it's blowing sand most likely it'll need to be disassembled and cleaned. Maybe try contacting NI to see if you can send it in and cleaned. Although I would expect to be without for at least a month. |
robin loo 05.06.2011 | have you tried compressed air? |
