FX 1 and 2 buttons don't work after midi fighter install
Posted on: 03.06.2011 by Merry Piesik
I just installed the instant gratification settings for a midi fighter. I'm having issues with that too but I just noticed on my S4 that for each channel one of the FX bank assign 1 / 2 buttons don't light up.

Channel 1: FX1 works and FX2 doesn't
Channel 2: FX1 works and FX2 doesn't
Channel 3: FX2 works and FX1 doesn't
Channel 4: FX2 works and FX1 doesn't

Now within Traktor I CAN assign both FX banks to any channel. Why won't this work on my S4?

What do I do to fix this?

I have same problem as Sherrplunk, very frustrating.

I don't have a MF tho, but I use a IG mapping for the X1

Bearing in mind I don't know what's in the tsi file you're using (I didn't look inside) but very quickly, for each button that you'll use to assign your chosen fx unit (Now I assume you have already created the function that will engage on and off the fx unit to the deck):

create a modifier (let's say here #1) that will be your button, set it so when the modifier condition modif 1=0 it goes (direct) to the value of 1.
Duplicate the function so when modif1=1 it goes (direct) to 0.
That's your toggling modifier.

Create a output function (add out), beat phase monitor, learn manually (ie within the drop down menu) the same message as the button you're using, add the modifier condition M1=1, set the range(s) from -0.005 to 0.005 and 0 to 127, assign to the chosen deck.

Repeat the process for the others buttons with another modifier. Should work (I may have forgot some details here but hopefully that's quite the path to follow). if that doesn't work like, duplicate the beat phase monitor function output, but this time incorporate the modifier condition M1=0 and but the bottom range to 0/0.

Just note the following restrictions:
- as you're adding to the embedded mapping, your modifier system must stay in 'sync' with what's happening within the software/hardware (ie, all modifiers are reset to 0 when you start Traktor so the related fx units must be disengaged too so modifier(s)=0.
- the beat phase monitor led won't work if there's no track inside your deck, if the track isn't playing or if the track is within a loop length under one beat. One workaround here I'm using, is that I duplicate for each button the beat phase monitor output 4 times, each one for a deck so I maximise the chances there will be 'sound' for the beat phase monitor. Please note that it is a bit a dumb solution and that I can't really tell you if your system will be able to cope with this abnormality.

As I said it's only a work around and not a perfect one. While we wait for NI to change the rigid way fx units are assigned in 4 units FX mode.

I'm rather surprised after 6-7 months NI hasnt looked into this issue as Im sure there are plenty of S4 users who use 4FX units on Traktor along with another midi controller
It's not an issue in NI's eyes it seems, they just chose a valid logic in a way, one deck, one fx unit. But yeah I agree with you.

Hope it helps (a bit).

Thanks Yul, I'm not familiar with Modifiers. Could you pls tell me the values I need to include ?

I just need some sort of LED output so I dont have to keep looking at my laptop to make sure which FX units are on which deck.

However while Im able to now assign FX units 1&2 to all 4 decks. LED output doesnt seem to work on the FXunit assign buttons on the S4.

Anyone been able to successfully assign FX units 1&2 to all 4 decks in
4FX mode with LED output working correctly ?
No it's not possible currently, it's even working as intended. The only workaround you can make is to use a beat phase monitor output linked to a toggling modifier for your fx unit that will take over the led. But then it's not very satisfactory.

Note to myself: I'm a bit too affirmative here so the answer is within the current limitations of what I believe I know about. In other words I may be fully wrong!!!!

Can't change LED outputs on the S4 as far as I know (unless you're using MIDI mode)

I don't have a midifighter but I want to assign FX 1&2 to all 4 decks in 4 FX units mode.
Currently its unable to do this via the S4.

I downloaded a mapping

Do you have 4 FX units enabled in Traktor? If so, that's why.
