fade to gray effect

fade to gray effect
Posted on: 28.06.2011 by Deeann Surginer
I would give my left nut to be able to use ableton's fade to gray effect in traktor. Is there a way of emmulating that with tracktor's existing effects? The effect is fantastic.

Thanks!

I believe your best bet is to install the loop recorder super knob tsi and edit it to include the f2g effect.

read through this whole thread as there's a lot to learn and several different versions of the tsi. This one should import correctly, but you'll use the big import button on the bottom of preferences to get it in instead of the add button.

Very interesting topic...

I as a "leaving user of dvs, live and also computers for djing and going to the hardware side again" made a little research about hardware emulation of Fade2grey effect and I want to share one found with all of you. It is only useful for those who have FX send mixer but here it is:

Just to give some info, I was reading on the NI site today about how multiple tsi's extend the load time of Traktor upon opening. I love the idea about adding smaller tsi's for super knobs and such but just be aware that if it's taking a LONG time for Traktor to do it's thing on launch, it may be due to multiple tsi's. I haven't tested this, just passing on what I've read. Please don't shoot the messenger and keep on tweaking.

I'll try to find some time to implement this in a Super LR Knob mapping. Hope to have it done later this week.

Cheers!

man....
that's as it should work. It will only work in midi mode unless you map it in NHL mode, but then you'll need to override the native command first.

Here's a couple of good explanations on the S4 mapping situation

Don't give up To use this with your S4 you'll have to put it in midi mode by pressing shift + the browse button. in midi mode you can map it to any knob you want. You can map it in NHL made but you'll have to override native command for the knob you want to use for this super knob. Take a look at the loop recorder super knob thread on here for hints on how to do that. If you're a total noob to mapping it will either be good practice or a headache. If it's a headache just do it in midi mode.

Is there some form of maximum number of tsis you can use in one session?

You need a spare knob to map all the commands to.... go to the first one click learn and turn the knob, go through every command in the Tsi learning to the same knob.... once done unclick learn and close settings play a track and turn that knob slowly :-D :-)

Now, I've never heard this effect, but I just want an understanding of it:

Essentially it's just a Filter 92 + Delay?

In another thread we've been working on creating multiple effects for a super knob, so this may be extremely useful.

ok this is my work so far ... just learn one knob of your choice to all commands in this mapping. Let me know if you have any issues and once ive got to hera the proper fade to grey again i will see if this can be tweaked.

this mapping with the turn of a knob should ....

changed fx bank 1 & 2 to advanced mode banks if not already

load filter92 into bank 1 and delay into bank 3

assign fx bank 1 & 3 to deck a

increase the HP filter whilst decreasing the low pass filter whislt also upping the dry wet on the 3/16 delay

Its rough but you should be able to see wat ive done with the mapping and tweak as you like.

If you want me to try and do anything else just let me know.

That's all there is to it, though it takes 3 FX units in Traktor to do it.
